Ive also got the "But your so skinny" responce, its amazing to me how many people know so little about diabetes.
I always get people asking me if i can eat different foods. but thats more out of concern and its not so annoying. everyone always askes me if i can eat cheese lol
I hate it when people say in referrence to giving yourself injections, "oh, how can you even do that?" Hmmm, I don't know, because I WANT TO LIVE!!!

My friends at school think i am over dramatic when i tell them that if i don't use insulin i rly could die it rly annoys me b/c ppl don't get what we have 2 go through
I hate when people tell me that their grandma has diabetes and go on and on about it. I also don't like it when people ask me if I can have a certain food, like I'll have a piece of cake and they'll ask if I can have that.

People do this all the time...it's a pain in the butt, but you just have to understand that some people are ignorant of others' diseases...much like we might not know a lot about...Lou Gehrig disease (sure some might but let me make a point). People hear the basic stupid stuff about diabetes and what they see on TV that mostly pertains to Type 2 people. It's not surprising that they don't know jack about Type 1.
Bri, just smile and say, "I can do and eat whatever I want as long as I have my insulin." Or something equally smug :)

i've said this many times 2 ppl all i get is weird looks haha
These are all so true and good. I am tired of having to explain myself. Why I have to prick my fingers, wear a pump all of the time, not eat out at restaruants all of the time. I mean, non diabetics don't have to constantly explain why they are eating a donut with their coffee, even though they are chunkie people. Hey dude, I should say, why are you eating that, aren't you kind of fat already? That would be similar to the sugar comments to us. Gee whiz, I gotta keep constant track of my numbers, amount of insulin going in, carbs going in and explain it over and over again to others who really don't care. I think I am getting to be bitter and old.
Thank you for allowing me to blow off some steam, I feel better now.
I don't mind talking about diabetes at all, but the one comment that I don't like when I say I have diabetes is "Oh I'm so sorry do you have the bad kind?" Both can be bad if you don't take care of yourself!!! I think most of these comments stem from people just not knowing enough about diabetes to know that you can have a piece of cake every once in awhile and it's not going to kill you!
My biggest annoyance from non-diabetics is when they tell me whether or not I should eat something sugary. What about you?

Yeah. that is REALLY annoying! && sometimes those sugar free thins still have carbs in it, so its almost like hmm, no it doesn't mater either way i still need insulin!!!!
I HATE it when people assume that my son has diabetes because of what he's eaten. It drives me nuts that people don't understand the difference between type 1 and type 2. Often times, I get looked at bad because they think he has diabetes because of the food I've fed him.
If I hear one more time "if he'd just exercise, he wouldn't have to have insulin" from another non diabetic I'm gonna slap them. I should have a pre recorded explanation. I feel I always have to educate people!
That's a great answer "Because I want to live, not die". I have used this one many times.
I'm constantly explaining to people that insulin is what I require to have a "normal" life.
Most of my friends are great because they know I've been living with T1 for 28 years. And believe me technology has gotten so much better over the years.

i hate it when im low and my friends know it and they still ask to have one of my glucose tabs. they call them sugar pills and thats all they ever ask me for. they dont get it that its either eat the tabs or pass out from being too low.
ohhh Yeahh. & it always happens to be my 90 year old grandma, who doesn't eat any more sugar.
&& to this day i have only met one person who has said oh my cousin has type one diabetes too & wears an insulin pump like urs. opposed to talking about there old grandma or fat uncle!
