i'm pretty old school and don't really like the idea of a pump and tubing and all that really, but i'm giving it a shot now that there's one that doesn't mean i have to disconnect to do fun stuff like soak in the hot tub with my friends and a few beers or go swimming!
Doug now that you have the pump and are away from the shots...have you seen a big difference? having a pump, is everything better or the same as it was with syringes. cuz your b/s was good using the syringe
Sorry Wolf - didn't see this until this morning.... I actually wonder why I didn't do it sooner. I was around your age when I was thinking about it too. The reason I like it is becuase it made the range between my highs and lows much more narrow. Meaning - with shots, (and I'm estimating here) I'd be between 40 and 400 - with the pump I'm usually between 60 and 230. It also made my hypo awareness much more acute. I know when I'm dropping below 75. That doesn't mean that I don't have the rogue 400 bs level now and again - it just doesn't happen as often. It also makes me feel like my a1c is true between 5.8 and 6.2. On the shots, I'd get to 6.5 but too many highs and lows just averaged out that way. I actually feel better too. Less rollercoasters just means better energy levels from day to day so diabetes, for me, was kind of an after thought. I wasn't stuck eating at certain times and I could go with the flow more. Hope that helps.
NP - I think the first step is to start accepting friend's request on your profile. I'm sure you probably have 20 invitations out there based off of the cool wolf pic alone. You haven't even accepted Gina's yet and she's our fearless leader here! LOL
Wolf, I've been following some of your posts and I to am in the same situation(finaincally) as you. With working 8days a week to afford an insulin pump. But before I got the new pump the rep told me that there are payment options such as monthly payments that can be setup to pay for the pump in 12,24 and 36 months. For me the previous company I worked for paid over half the price for the pump so I didn't have to have a credit check done, but I'm still paying for my pump and will be for another 6-8 months. And I'm sure that other companies have the same thing as well cause they are so friggin expensive.
Hopefully this will give you just a little more information for when you are ready to look into getting one.
i have a pump and i love it!! it gives me so much freedom and i dont have to eat a certain amount of carbs of eat at a certain time which is great!!!! also u only have to get a shot (besides testing) every two or three days!! i only know one person who didnt like it
i have been pumping for 9 years, diabetic almost 30. My 4 year old also has a pump. i would never ever in a zillion years go back to shots. Matter of fact, i can't even stand to go to the doctor and have blood drawn. Kind of crazy, i know but I can't imagine doing shots everyday again.
I'm on the one touch ping pump. I love it. I have seen such a drastic difference in the way that I feel and my blood sugar. It gives me the freedom that I didn't think I could feel with diabetes. I was diagnosed 5 months ago today and I never thought I'd be on a pump this soon!
I am on the minmed pump 722 named Rosaile. I have never gave one thought of going back to the shots. I have been on th pump for 5 1/2 years and love it.
I don't want to change now either. I've been doing it for 33 years and am totally cool with it. I just can't get past having a machine hooked up to me. I know, you get used to it, but I'm just not interested right now.
