Weird stomach discomfort

This may not be diabetic related, I'm not 100% sure...I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem and it was something to do with their diabetes?

My levels have been pretty normal with only a few highs which are normal cuz I was drinking at the time, or I had eaten some candy at work and forgot to do insulin.. I don't wanna go to the doctor, cuz well..he'll probably just tell me I've got a virus or something and leave it at that.

The last two weeks or so I've had off and on again stomach discomfort. I ended up taking a day off work last week because I woke up feeling so ill. I kinda wish I had taken today off, as it seems to be worse now.

I woke up at 4.4 (79.2) and I actually tried to eat breakfast before work(normally I would wait til I got to work and eat a Bacon Griddle from M&M Meats with some tea). I ended up eating about one piece of bread in total with jam and butter on it. I toasted two pieces of bread and made a sandwich so I could eat it on my walk to the bus, and ended up throwing a little bit more than half of it out. I felt sick when I woke up, but I though eating might help the vomit feeling, cuz I know my stomach was empty as I barely ate dinner last night(heat makes me feel hungry and my stomach was bugging me at the time too)..maybe three bites of the chicken sandwich I got at the pub. Nope didn't work.

Not eating makes my stomach upset, but eating is making it upset too. I have that feeling in the back of my throat, off and on again for the last two weeks, like I'm about to throw up.

I'm really stressed and not getting enough sleep cuz of the heat lately, but stuff like that has never caused me to feel like this. I don't have any infections, all my peircings including my new pair are doing fine. I clean them in the shower regularly too. I just tested and I'm 14.2 (255.6) but I feel like I'm low.

Natalie,

Wierd question, but have you made sure that your insulin hasn't expired or that it doesn't have a cloudy appearance (like it may be spoiled)? A couple of years ago, I went through a similiar feeling and I was injecting out of date insulin....I had a hundred of them lying around and I always just grabbed the one I could get my hands on not realizing the feaking discard by date...

=/ my novorapid is good til 12/2010 and is a pretty new bottle..switched to it just after i start getting this feeling. my lantus expires next month but i'm about two doses away from needing to open a new bottle anyways. both are clear and have no discolouring to them.

my stomach is also cramping now which is just loooovely. and no, my bowel movements are normal. =/

i either feel like throwing up or i have cramping. and i've already gone through my monthly cramps. =/

I am going through the same thing.  My doctor did an endoscopy and is doing a biopsy to see what's going on.  You probably should go to the doc!

yeah if i'm not feeling better by friday im gonna book an appointment i guess.

what does your doctor think it is?

I would be checked for Celiac Disease. It's an autoimmune disorder that affects the way your body breaks down wheat (gluten). A simple bloodtest can give you an initial yes/no answer. An endoscopy and a biopsy will verify.

I was diagnosed with celiac 7.5 years ago. After eating gluten-free (no wheat), I have felt great and my health has been fabulous. My diabetes is under better control too because I'm not sick all the time. Celiac is one of the top ten misdiagnosed and underdiagnosed illnesses in the U.S. because it has really common symptoms (stomach upset, weight loss, n/v/d). It's a really simple fix to feel better, too! Simply change your diet a little bit and you feel amazing!

Hi Batts,

Perhaps you should get a pregnancy test.  What you thought was your regular monthly cycle could have been implantation bleeding.  It's easy enough to rule out.

I hope you feel better.

I've been tested because they thought my mom's digestion problems was Celiac Diease. I had a few days of similar symptoms as her, so she sent me to the doc so i could get tested. this was only a few months ago, and i tested negative.

Yeah I think I just might. I'm on the patch though for birth control which is a lot better than the pill for me because I don't forget to take it..and the last two pregnancies were within a month of going off the pill..so I donno. I have the night off, so I think I'm gonna go get the clinic to do one of their tests(instead of dropped $16 to find out that I'm not). Might as well I guess. With my last two though, I didn't get these symptoms. First one I just got cravings for Salt 'n' Vinegar chips(ate a bag of them during every shift in the box office..which was only usually a 4 or 5 hour shift..and then another bag when I was at home..and I'm talking about the BIG bags not the small ones you give kids) and the second, I was throwing up in the morning but otherwise fine the rest of the day.

Fuck I better not be though. Now I'm worried.

update

i ended up getting a clear blue on my lunch break cuz i started to get worried. i'm not pregnant, so thats ruled out!

Have you ever been tested for allergies?  You could be allergic to something?

no, i have hayfever i developed this year but all the tests they've done came back negative when i had stomach problems a few months back..tho they were slightly different. =/

OK.  I think it's time for Dr. HOUSE :)

(One of my favorite TV Shows, bit I think in REAL LIFE if you're not feeling
any better by now you should just go see you REAL doctor. What the heck do
a bunch of Type 1's know about medicine anyway?)

Just because we're all experts at giving injections
doesn't qualify us to be MD's. LOL

The heat coul definitely be making you feel like you are going to puke.  I did a really intense hike in like 33 deg C weather one day and got heat exhaustion or stroke or whatever and felt like I was going to puke for so long.  This was before I had diabetes so I have no idea if this would effect sugar or not. I would imagine it would so it's weird your sugars aren't off.  You might be dehydrated a little from the heat?  That makes you feel sick too.  I really have no idea I am just tossing stuff out there.

ya im gonna hit up the doctor's next week since there seems to be nothing diabetic related going on! i just thought i'd see if anyone else has had similar problems :)

Hi Batts,

One other possibility should have occured to me earlier, especially because I have suffered with this condition in the past.  The condition is "gastroparesis" and it is most definitely diabetes related.  Basically, this condition is an impairment of the nerves which control the stomach muscles.  It's a form of neuropathy, which many diabetics get after a number of years, especially if they have run high sugar levels for a time.  The common symptoms are heartburn, bloating or feeling full even after a small meal, nausea, vomiting, cramping and an acid taste in the mouth. Fortunately the condition is manageable with diet, medication, even exercise, and is even reversible with better sugar control.  There are many references to "gastroparesis" on the net.  Google it if you're interested.

Hi Batts, I hope you feel better soon. I look at Web Md sometimes, but I think it would make you have more peace of mind to go to your doctor. I  know you are going next week, that's good.I'll be thinking about you, maybe next week will bring better things.

How is this figured out? Blood tests?

weeeeellllllll..that was no help.

my family doc gave me some anacids to take. he thinks it's just an acid problem(funny enough..he gave my mom the SAME sample pills to try cuz she always had digestion problems so many it's a family thing instead). he gave me a lab sheet to go get a breath test to see if i have an ulcer(also gave one to my mom haha) and told me to take the anacid pills after i take the breath test for two weeks and see if it helps.

he doesn't think i have an ulcer, but he figured we might as well test for it anyways. he doesn't think i have gastroparesis but only because i don't have ALL the symptons. he told me to talk to my endo about it being diabetic-related when I see him at the end of july...but if the pills dont work he wants me to come back in two weeks.

on a side note..i now have a skin infection cuz a stupid spider bite my knee a few nights ago and my pants have been rubbing it so now it's infected and i'm on anti-botics....and i'm getting my cover-up tattoo on my foot saturday on the same leg. $(**#$&*#$*(&%*&# my body. haha. (i asked if i could still get the tattoo and the clinic doc i saw last night said it should be fine cuz i'll almost be done the 7days of antibotics and my doc agreed today when i let him know)

ok so im a guy right? haha of course. but i had some weird abominal issues but i was regular on a daily basis but it turned out that my body wasn't disgesting gelatin that well...and when i went on a gummi bear spree 3 weeks ago it was disastrous. i had a lump thing on my lower right side of my abdomen.  The only way I figured this out was because i had lucky charms/just the marshmallows which have gelatin in them and had the same lump and feeling in my abdomen. lovely i know but it helps to share sometimes :)
