Weight Gain with insulin

Does anyone feel that they gain weight in the spots that the insulin is injected into? I was high for a long time and started injecting into my stomach alot since thats the fastest acting and I believe I gained weight in that area more so than others.

Does anyone else have an opinion on this?

Insulin is a hormone, and absolutely promotes fat growth, especially where it is injected. I keep my pump site in my stomach, that's the only reason I don't have a 12-pack ;)

Could this possibly be an absorption issue? I have been putting my pump in my stomach right around and above the hip bone area for about 15 years and have never experienced weight gain in just the area where my insertion site is. Sometimes when you inject or insert an infusion set  in the same place you can develop scar tissue and absorbency problems with the insulin, which may make the area swollen or bumpy.

!!! hv, how i've missed you :o) welcome back

As far as I am aware, insulin will never cause fat to grow. It will cause the tissue to become scared if the same spot is used too often.

However, the area around the stomach will be the first place to gain inches if you are using too much daily insulin.

I've used my stomach for shots and infusion for 40 years and the only fat is what I started with after gaining 30 lbs in two week after starting on insulin and the winter wrap from not exercising enough during the cold and dark season.

These varied replies just show, that like everything with diabetes, each person reacts differently.

When I was a kid and went to diabetic summer camp, I felt like most of the girls past puberty had a little extra fat in their stomachs.

How do you know if you have scar tissue? If you keep injecting into it does the absorption take longer or maybe not even at all?

I sometimes feel that when I give a shot it does nothing and I have to give more later in a different spot.

Sue....if you keep injecting it does take longer to absorb, it takes about 6 months for it to heal, that's coming from my little brothers endo. He had an appointment yesterday actually and we had the same question cause we have both been having the problem of insulin not absorbing.
