Music_lover - I know what you mean. Most days I try to be cheerful about the misconceptions that are thrown around about myself and my diabetes and I try to educate. I realize that not everyone is going to assume that I have type one since I have officially 'grown up'. :) But there are always those days where I just cannot cheerfully handle it. I mentioned in another thread that I've had people tell me that their great aunt so-and-so died from diabetes or that diabetes killed their family member. I mean...why would you say that to someone? Those things always crush me. Then scare me. I've yet to come up with a good, witty response to the death comments.
I'd love it if the ADA and JDRF came out with some campaigns to educate everyone on both kinds of diabetes. Type two affects a lot of people and those wacky misconceptions hurt them just as much as they hurt us.
I don't see the problem here. If it can help them, good for them, go for it. If it allows them to continue their unhealthy lifestyle, so what. Isn't that what people brag about on here as far as pumps go, "I can eat anything whenever I want"? This is different how? Doesn't change anything for pumpers on here. If anything, it could help. With more customers and more profit for R&D, they may come up with better pumps in a shorter period of time.

Great news for Minimed and Animas!

I know that the new Paradigm pump in the UK (Veo) now has a maximum bolus of 50 units rather than 25 like the current (x22 and below) models here. That's definitely something they did to cater to T2s.
The problem is a lot of insurance companies and Medicare/Medicaid won't cover pumps for Type 2s. Some do end up getting them if their c-peptide results are low enough, because that's what medicare/medicaid uses to determine type. Private insurance is usually more willing to cover them even if the c-peptide shows the patient is still producing enough of their own insulin.
i just wish there was some way that people could possibly "live in our shoes" one day and see how hard it is some days to live with this disease. some days ur levels couldnt be any more perfect others there all wacked out. and i dont know if its just because i was just diagnosed this year and just now every time i hear the word "diabetes" on tv or something i turn around from what i am doing and look to see what its about. but they are starting to advertise for like "donations" on tv and stuff a lot more i see. and yes i know what you mean about people saying o well my family member was a type two.... and soo on. my mom gets sooo angry when people come up to me with type two ro hypoglycemia or something and say stories. like for example my secretary ran into my mom and me walking out of school and i told my mom that she was one of the people who took care of me. and my mom then stopped and thanked her for all she had been doing. then my secretary proceeded to say " i have hypoglycemia, and every time shes low i just tell her to sit down because one time my sugar went low and i passed out went un-cauncious and everything, until someone finally found me...." when my mom and i ended the conversation and walked away my mom said" i hate when people are always coming up to you saying that kind of stuff" i said" i dont mind i mean hey might as well get use to it.." my mom then said" i know but your my daughter and you shouldnt have to go through that kinda stuff" its just so upseting sometimes. and most of all frustrating and i know all of you on this discussion, even everyone on this website can relate to that.
drumminman- i know what you mean and people are saying that because they try to explain of how nice the pump is. how on shots your on a regulated schedule certain amount of carbs.. your whole life is completely different from before. what we mean about when we say "we can eat whatever we want" is that its a lot nice then shots we can eat a piece of cake and just bolus for it but we dont load up on junkfood. like most type twos do which is how they got overweight then got type two diabetes notice i said most type twos cause i know not all type twos are overweight. and if you do research the rate for type ones are going up.. there pretty much skyrocketing. also if you read through all the comments most say something about the ones who deserve it should most deff. get it. and i beleive there was one that said " the type two's should have to have circumstances and guidelines....." and so on. like i said on this board to someone else.. everyone is entitled to there own opinion this is what this site is for but what you said about us saying "Isn't that what people brag about on here as far as pumps go, "I can eat anything whenever I want"? This is different how?" i just explained to you the difference. we feel like we have our life back thats what we mean and i dont know about other people but that comment kind of made me a little mad.
