The Pump vs The Cocktail Dress

I just love everyone's input!  My friend and I are running some tests right now.  lol.  It's going to be a fun summer!  ^_^

Kellie,

i think it would be really cool if you could somehow make nike exercise shorts with some type of pockets to fit the general pump, i know its always a little uncomfortable for me to wear those shorts because there isn't a good way to wear it!

Yeah, I know what you mean.  I work out 1-2 times per day.  Right now I am using a pair of adidas shorts that have a mp3 pocket in the back.  My pump fits in it and there is a zipper but I wish it wouldn't flop around.  Thanks for the suggestions.  Right now I am looking into a few dress designs, a bra and now I think we'll explore some shorts too.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Pump Band.  http://www.pumpwearinc.com/pumpshop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=820  (scroll down - they have different styles and fabrics)

My boyfriend used to sleep in his jeans every night becuase 1) he was lazy and 2) he wanted his pockets.   I bought him a pump band and it changed everything.

As for wearing it at the gym, I vote for sew in a spandex pocket, or get one of the fancy little work-out tops that have iPod pockets.  They are designed to not let he iPod (or iPUMP!!) fall out, and they have a natural place for your tube - the headphone opening!  I just saw a bunch of these at Dicks for 50% off - I think they're really for runners.  :)

Hi Steph!

I think the Pump Band you mentioned is the "leg strap" others were talking about earlier in this thread - but maybe I'm wrong?

When I run, I either have a running belt on (like a Spibelt, or I also have a larger one made by Nathan), or I use an Amphipod.  It depends on how long I'm going to be out for, and what I need to carry with me.  The Amphipod is exactly big enough to hold my Animas Ping pump, but not much else.  (It was the first one I bought.)  The Spibelt is stretchy, so I can hold a Clif Gel and a lip balm in there, too.  If I'm carrying my CGM receiver, too, and glucose tabs, I go for the Nathan belt.

Here are links to what I'm talking about... haha...

Don't think I saw this mentioned in this thread.  A friend saw this featured on jezebel.com and sent it to me recently.

Not for sale yet, but I think sometime soon.   I thought they were cute ways to have pump accessible and disguised.

Yeah I saw the Hanky Panky website.  It was cute.  They have a burlesque show in New York, I think.  I did think it was very cute.  I'm trying to make something a little more practical for everyday use.  I am loving all of this feedback!

I used to clip it in my underwear (weird, I know, but it shows much less).

thats what i do!! then i'll wear those tight volleyball shorts onto so it stays in place!

I love this thread, it's got me cracking up! and bringing back soo many memories. haha

when it came to dances In high school I would always have to find dresses that could conceal my pump. I was definitely a fan of the "in between the boobs" trick but if i bent forward I would always get weird looks or questions. The trick that worked the best for me was using spanks, after a while you even forget its there, but it depends on the dress of course.

Kellie I think it is a great idea to try and design something else to helps us girls out when it comes to pump placement! :)

Ok so this is kind of weird, but...

since the leg strap thing is so ridiculously huge, when I was in high school - hello dances - dress required! My mom gave me her garter from her wedding to use. Since they are stretchy and actually meant to fit a leg, they work pretty good. I got another one, cuz I felt safer with 2 of them. I loop my tubing through them, in case the pump does slip out it won't crash to the floor. You have to be careful about jumping around too much - Cotton Eye Joe was better to watch - but it worked pretty good.

I love this thread too!  I am getting amazing replies from everyone!

The leg strap was a pain in the butt for me, especially during show choir. It falls everywere! Try doing a triple sau kick when your pump is falling!

Anyway, what I ended up doing (and I liked it better) was finding an old pair of tight shorts or tights cut down to the length of shorts (I used tummy-control tights because they're thicker, and hey, there're tummy-control!) and cutting a small hole in them. If you put your pump holder on and stick it in the hole, it stays in beautifully, as long as you're not doing a whole lot of jumping!

Wow! Thanks for all the ideas, it makes me so happy to know I'm not alone in getting annoyed with the leg strap, I don't wear that short of skirts but the strap always shows when I'm sitting down in class so I'm constantly conscious of it, and it constantly falls down. I will have to try some of the ideas:)

Geez, after reading some of these posts, thank God I am male.  I just clip my pump to my belt.  No probs.  I empathize with you females.  I do recall the cellphone salesman in the mall trying to convince me to get a cellphone instead of using the pager system.  That was humorous.

My preferred option is my dress with pockets, but seeing as it's strapless, for some occasions it's not appropriate.

A lot of the time I end up just bringing a clutch and sticking my pump in there. When I need to bolus, I just go over to a bathroom and connect my pump. True, I don't get my basal, but it's generally a pretty good option.

This just makes me laugh ! Ok bra I rock the pump in bra or clipped to my back I do that 2 . Spandex ! if it's tight engough your pumps not goin anywhere .also if you hot some high boots like high up your leg and your site is in your thigh slip it into your boot not the most comfortable but if your tubing is long it works .

Haha.  I'm way too tall for that.  The tubing doesn't even go halfway past my thigh which makes it hard to use the restroom when I clip it to my jeans.  I can't believe I listened to the nurse about the shorter tubing being more convenient.  I thought I was too tall and I was right.  I'm stuck with this size until I run out.

I was just thinking that I'm to tall for that too! One time I got the shorter tubing and I hated it, quite inconvenient.

I'm now considering just putting my pump in my purse at school dances, it would be way easier, plus I drop anyway from dancing. Although, I would fear it being stolen when I set it down, High school is not the most honest of places :)

Not to shift from the battle for dress wearing, but I accidentally got short tubing once and it was the worst thing ever! I am short, and I still hated it!. Once in a great while, I drop my pump, with short tubing, it totally rips out. Then I couldn't sleep because I kept rolling onto my pump since I couldn't move it further away. I also set my pump on my dresser while I try to figure out what I am going to wear for the day, and the tubing wasn't long enough for me to dig though my bottom drawers... the list goes on... lol. I have yet to find an instance when short tubing was useful, lol.
