Site changes

ok i just started on the pump about a month ago and i have been having a problem of having the sites be really painful. now its not all the time that i get a site that hurts like crazy, but i'm just wondering how the crap do i just get good sites?

I've been having the same problems lately. My sites start throbbing and are really itchy. Does that happen to you to?

Is it painful from the get-go, or just after a day or so?

One thing is to make sure you are placing the pump in areas with a bit more fatty tissue. Some people thats the stomach, some it's the thighs. This may help. Make sure, too, that you're changing your sites at least every three to four days (more frequently if the pain comes on sooner).

Hope this helps.

i don't have the itchiness although my whole body itches because of the dryness that i live in.

sometimes its painful from the time i insert it to the time i decide ok that's enough pain for me. i am not one to complain about pain, but this is not fun. i  change it out every 2-3 days and thanks for the suggestion.

I periodically get the itchiness, but that happens maybe one in six infusion site changes. I think part of the problem is just a small infection may set in. Usually if is happens it is on the second day of use.

However, it could also be the infusion set you uses. I using the Minimed Pump, I had started with the quick set infusion set, which I guess is the standard setup. It only lasted about a month for me, i was blowing through the infusion sets like nothing due to issues at the sites, i.e. bent canula and such. I think that was due in part to not using a really fatty area of the body. Also, because of that I would find the itchy and irritibility happen quicker. I have since  moved to the silohuette infusion set. This angled infusion seems to be working better for me and like I said rarely see the redness or itchiness. So if this continues, you may want to consider talking with your doctor about trying to change which infusion set you use to something else. If nothing else it may help you with your discomfort and pain.
