I've had a friend send me an article about how the Pharmacy companies are brain washing us into thinking we need insulin and that if we only followed the raw food diet, we'd be fine.
I was furious! But then i realized she (and the author) are completely naive. I tried to explain to her what would happen with raw food. For example she made a spinach smoothie and added a banana. Well, the banana has a bit of carbs in it and if I didn't take a small amount of insulin for it, my blood sugars would go high. Which it did. Her reply is that I assume you know what to do with whatever I'm giving you. Well, yes but by not taking insulin that is not the answer.
Oh, yes, I did explain that if I could control everything by diet and not insulin that'd be news! Of course none of us have every thought of that! (ok, a bit sarcastic)...
From now on I'm going to try and educate her a bit more. Just venting!
I agree with your vent -- I think this all comes down to a confusion betweens types 1 and 2. Of course, no matter how healthy they eat, some T2's still need medications too.
I hypothetically like the idea of eating more raw foods if it means eating more fruits and veggies, but I would never go on this diet. Too extreme for me! I would miss grabbing lunch out w. friends, etc.
All he would have had to have done was scroll down to read what the asterisk stood for, too:
The program featured in the film at the Tree of Life Rejuvination Center is most effective with diabetes type 2 but is also very effective at increasing quality of life and reducing insulin levels for diabetes type 1. The 21 day cycle at the core of this program is also a powerful modality for hyperglycemia and pre-diabetes as well as improving quality of life for those in need of rejuvenation and healing.
But, yeah, it's aaaaaall the way at the bottom of the page. Most people wouldn't scroll down that far to read it. Having someone send me this in the way your friend did would really tick me off, too.

Hey, tTe Tree of Life those are the people that also like coffee enemas as part of the cure!!! LOL
Did you hear about the news that came out a couple of years ago that some researchers created insulin enemas so diabetics could avoid injecting insulin??! Eek! Makes me want a BIG ole needle anyday!
I agree with you Greg, I would have been really annoyed too!
Note how their list of experts does not even include an endocrinologist. This is not a cure and shouldn't be promoted as such. Yes, perhaps it's a healthier way of eating resulting in better blood sugar control, reduced insulin dependency and weight loss, but at the end of the day these people still have diabetes.
Insulin enemas - eek! I'm like the rest of you - Type 1's - we're on insulin for life - but still eating raw / healthy foods isn't a bad idea - but not because of being cured of diabetes. Still best to check with your endo / health team tho' before going on any unusual diet plan.

insulin enemas? isn't that just substituting one injection for another? Haha. Would any of that be absorbed you wonder? You take an insulin enema and some of it has gotta be absorbed by your body right? So wouldn't you end up in a hypoglycemic coma or something?
Sorry I'm going super literal here in the enema idea...we have our vials of insulin (2mL) and if we were to give ourselves that, it's lights out. Enemas are what? Maybe a liter or more? That's a lot of insulin. Very expensive too when you think about how much our 2mL vials costs...
Enemas have come up on here a few times...what is it with our members? ;)
So I haven't read through all of the posts, I'm here to vent to a degree as well, while my meal is/was by no means "raw" I have been working the past 6 months on managing my diabetes to a much more fine degree. I woke up this morning at 125, and had some bacon, in addition to a baggie of veggies, carrots, celery, and broccoli. I know there is a minute amount of carbohydrates in said vegetables, but in 45 minutes my blood sugar went from 125 to 212, continuing up after a bolus of 2.5 units to 234! x__x I'm sorry, this is tiring though. <3 I hope this finds you all well.
In light and love, a prayer to next time be in range.
