So, I'm really wanting a tubeless insulin pump as I'm finding that my Minimed Paradigm is getting in the way of my work, being snagged on work tables, tools, etc. (No matter how tucked away I have it, it always seems to find it's way out.) Anyway, I've been searching and searching, but most articles I find about tubeless pumps are kind of confusing as they never seem to say exactly when one is out on the market and available for the U.S. My question is, is the Omnipod the only available tubeless pump in the US market to date? I was really hoping the Solo would be available this summer, but I just got a letter from them saying that it will not be available in the US Market until 2012 now.
I'm a little hesitant of the Omnipod due to its bulkiness. I'm constantly having to fit myself into tight spaces for work and hold flats up against my body...so, does anyone who has been using the Omnipod ever experience the pod getting ripped out if bumped/snagged against something?

yup, it's the only one, to-date. others are in development, I don't think we'll see a new model this year.
I know you asked for pod advice, but I think all pumps can get in the way a little, get caught, fallen on, and snagged. I guess this whole thing depends on how sensitive you are to it. Half my time is in front of a computer, the other half is on industrial construction sites. I have snagged, bumped, banged, fallen on, and scratched the s°°t out of my pump. The worst to date was getting the thing caught under a fall protection harness web and brusing myself. I don't know what pump is going to eliminate the entire issue for you without causing other issues...but I wish you luck.
Ow, Joe! What kind of pump do you use? I just thought that if I used a tubeless pump, it'd be better because the chances of it getting caught in a saw would be less likely. (Thank God that's never happened and hopefully it never will, but it does worry me all the more every time I have to use one.
I know an 11 year old boy who has basically had to stop wrestling with his brother because his omnipod kept getting ripped out. Most of the folks I know on the pod love it.
minimed 722. i kind of like the scratches, it's a badge of honor that this machine can keep up with me and take the beatings I take... and it kind of reminds me of the everyday wear and tear on my body.
i just wanted to point out that pumps are built very tough. I woudn't throw mine down the stairs on purpose, but in reality it would survive a fall down the stairs. come to think of it I did fall down the stairs once and it broke the belt clip right off the pump housing =).
I use the omnipod. Diving off a diving board ripped off a couple. My daughter jumping up in my arms got another. They say you can put it on the back of your arm or even on your lower back, but the arm ones got ripped off just walking through doors, and the lower back one got ripped off just sitting down in my car seat (I do not have much skin to pinch up on my lower back). The best place to date has been my sides as long as I do not dive or try to hold somebody to my side. I can't wait to get these pumps that you can detach during certain activities so I can dive again and play with the kids more freely.

Wow, it seems that the Pod is more sensitive than I thought. This is such a hard decision for me as the demo kit is only to be worn for 3 days...That's not long enough for me to see if it will work best in my situation or not. Right now, the best location I can put my pump is on the front of my bra (yes b/t my cleavage) as the tube remains hidden under my shirt and the pump is clear of most movements. However, it does sometimes get a bit bulky and uncomfortable there over a long period of time and people often ask me what that "box" is under my shirt. I have now resorted to telling them that it is my heart's magnetic field generator which Tony Stark made for me. Then I laugh as they crinkle their noses in confusion at me. It's fun.
I use the omnipod and though I don't work at a construction site, I was worried it would snag and rip out. To combat that, I usually put two pieces of waterproof athletic tape (available at CVS) in a criss cross across the pump. It keeps it nice and secure. Between that and having it under my clothes, I have never had an issue.

Oh ok...Yeah, I have the 522 right now and it's also been through some beatings. I even have a hairline crack down the side of the battery compartment, but it still holds together well. It's pretty rough & tough like me. I just wish I didn't have to deal with the tubing. Well, I hope you didn't get hurt falling down the stairs. Seems like your belt clip got the best of the fall. ;o)

Oh! That's a good idea. I guess if I put the Pod on my arm somewhere, I could always cover it with an armband. Something like that. Tape irritates my skin after awhile.
It seems kind of sad that we need to cover our arms/bodies with duck tape like things to hold these things on! I don't think an arm band will do much. There are other adhesive type of medical products that can be used that you spray on the area you will apply the patch by the way. Maybe somebody here knows the product names?
