Pretending

So I'm doing a little "experiment" I guess you could call it, and I want to see if anybody has had the same outcome as I have.

I've had my CGM for almost 2 years. At first, I found that calibrating it was extremely difficult and confusing at times, so I only used it about 50% of the time that first year. As I started to get the hang of it more, I started using it more. I now wear it 90% of the time and I absolutely love it. It gives me so much added security when it comes to blood sugars and trends. However, I've found that I've begun to obsess about what my number is at any given moment, and I check my CGM way more than what is necessary.

I've seen on here and I've read in blogs discussions about how knowing a blood sugar can send you into freak out mode. I'll admit that sometimes (when I'm not wearing my CGM), I'll be feeling perfectly fine, check myself, see a low number show up on the screen, and immediately feel all of the symptoms of that low at once. It's kind of like hypo-unawareness, but as soon as your eyes are aware, the rest of your body catches up. The same thing can happen for highs.

The last 2 days, I've been purposely ignoring my pump and CGM. I have my low alarm set at 70 and my high alarm set at 160. This only works if your CGM is calibrated correctly, of course. So I do my bolus when I eat, check before and after meals/snacks, but other than that, I basically pretend that I don't have diabetes. I keep my mind off of it as much as possible. I don't know if this is a coincidence, but it's worked WONDERS! I've been more in range the last 2 days than I normally am and it's given me a big confidence boost!

Has anybody else had this happen?

Interesting. I have heard that the Dexcom CGM may one day only have arrows showing trends. No number.
