Newly pregnant and scared

Hey guys, I just got my BFP this week and went to the ER for fluids and blood tests. I am scared to death over here because my husband and I are moving to TX this Sunday and don’t have health insurance as of that day. I’m 5 weeks and plan to apply for Medicaid when we get there, but I’m worried that I won’t have my first appointment early enough since I will be waiting on Medicaid to approve us!

I didn’t know I was pregnant until I was already 5w (saw my endo the next day, at least in Canada you get priority when you get knocked up haha), saw my new endo team (mine didn’t handle pregnancy) at 6w and didn’t see my OB until I was 10w, almost 11w, so there’s still time. :slight_smile:

Do you have an endo currently? I would call their office and see if you could have phone meetings with them until you find one in TX, if they know of any resources in TX that you could contact for support or if you have an endo arranged in TX already, I would call their office today and explain that you’re now pregnant, they should be able to find a time to fit you in to see the doctor sooner.

I’m not really sure how the States work with insurance so I can’t give any advice on how you could get the Medicaid processed faster, sorry.

Just try to keep calm and work through the things you need to do, stressing won’t make anything happen sooner or make anything easier. :slight_smile:

@zenjuliet,

Most people don’t see an OBGyN till about 8 weeks pregnant.

I actually don’t and an endo right now either because of the insurance issue. I was getting my supplies through my regular doctor and taking care of myself, so I won’t see an endo until I get Medicaid approved and I’m in Texas.

@zenjuliet - I would hit google and see if there are any diabetic clinics in the area you’re moving to that you can access without insurance for support until you can get an endo in Texas (they may also be able to help you with the referral process, etc) and reach out the the JDRF local chapter and/or the American Diabetes Association local chapter for help in navigating the options since you’re new to Texas.
