Medtronic Pump News

Thanks so much for the support - I got it delivered yesterday, so now I'm just waiting for the training session to be set up, I think the waiting is harder!

let me know how its going for you and which pump have you decided on, thats the process that we are not in,

choosing the right pump for Daniel.

hello!!  we are also thinking of going with medtronic and I am hoping that we are making the right choice for my son

Daniel.

SOME OF YOU ARE ASKING ABOUT SCUBA DIVING AND SUCH WITH A PUMP, I HAVE BEEN ON THE OMNI POD PUMP SINCE SEPT. 15 AND IT IS WIRELESS AND WATER PROOF TO AN EXTENT, SO YOU CAN SHOWER AND SWIM AND PLAY FOOTBALL ETC... I LOVE THIS PUMP OF COURSE THERE ARE COMPLAINTS, NONE THAT I HAVE HAD, I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THIS PUMP AND YOU CAN ALMOST PLACE IT ANYWHERE... I CAN ANSWER ANY QUESTION YOU MAY HAVE   : )

the only thing about the omni pod that it has no glucose sensor (yet) and that is important to me to get that to my son and its fairly new, so how accurate is it???

The one thing that i loved when i heard about the omni pod was that it has no tubing and thats wonderful.

I chose the minimed - I'm just doing the online prep before i meet with the trainer, which should be next week, I'll let you know how it goes, good luck to you!

I have the Minimed paradigm and CGM I love it.

The MiniMed is a GREAT pump! And Medtronic is a GREAT company! I think you'll really be pleased! Please do let me know how it goes.

As I understand them, most CGM's (Continuous Glucose Monitors) can function independent of any specific pump. It's just that some CGM's link directly with some pumps (Like Minimed's CGM). Of course, the CGM's don't regulate the insulin with the linked pump, they just automatically "insert" the BG reading into the pump.

Yes! I can't wait for my insurance to finally jump on the boat and cover the CGM for my pump. I have good old Cigna which is always the last insurance company to decided to cover anything! Does anyone know how much is it without insurance?

On the main JDRF site, you can join an advocacy program aimed at petitioning the insurance companies to cover CGM's. I strongly recommend it.

I'm not sure how much the CGM is without insurance, but I know the pumps run around $6,000.

yeahh they're both pretty expensive.

my insurance company covers cgms' so i'm getting one in 4 days and i'm excited!

You might talk to your doctor about this... I was told (by one of the pump companies) that if my doctor diagnosed me with a certain diagnosis code, the insurance I use (AETNA) would cover it. The insurance company won't tell you this. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't get my doctor to change my diagnosis just to get a CGM, but you MIGHT fit. Check with the CGM company you'd like to go with, they might be able to help.
I was working with a girl who had T1 as well and she showed me hers and it was literally half the size of mine with the same infusion set up. I wish I could remember the name of her pump!
animas pumps are super small. they are about half the sixe of animas pumps.

Hi Amandan,

Our  insurance covered also for the CGM and we got it in the mail last week.

very excited to go to the class this month for the pump and the CGM and hopefully i will finally get some sleep.

I have not been sleeping since October 25 when the little one had his first and hopefully the last Hypo, it was the

worst nigthmare.

Has anyone heard anything about what Medtronic has planned for it's next generation of insulin pumps?  I thought I read something about a tube-less pump, but I have not seen anything official.

This will be wonderful!!

We just got our quote for the pump and the CGM which was 1400$$.

Our insurance paid 80% of the pay which was excellent.

I have a Medtronic pump as well. Ha ha, some inside information here that I got from my trainer: the CGM-pump combo is definately in the works. Or, at least being discussed. :) Real exciting :) I'll post back if I hear anything else from them
