the CDE gave me a few options and now i'm narrowing it down to the omnipod and the minimed paradigm (with CGM)
the omnipod is waterproof and stuff but the PDM is separate and can be lost
the minimed paradigm has the CGM and it's connected to you but it has tubing (which i'm a little afraid of) and it'c all connected to you and noticeable
i have the minimed 722 with CGM (which i just got yesterday) and i LOVE it. i've only ever had the minimed but it's seriously changed my life. the tubing doesn't bother me, and you can easily hide it and the pump under a shirt or in a pocket. the CGM is still confusing me a little but i think once i figure it out it wil be extremely beneficial.
i really haven't looked at the omnipod at all but it looks annoying, because you have this big thing attached to your skin rather than the small infusion site of the minimed. and the waterproof thing isn't a big deal, because disconnecting the pump for showers or swimming is very easy, and it can withstand water to a certain point.
so i would go for the minimed, because it's extremely awesome. not that i'm biased or anything :)
In all truthfullness you will not notice the tubing after about a week or so. Both pumps are truly good ones, the CGMS that minimed has is nice. However, the omnipod is rumored to eventually be able to sync with the Dexcom system. If you want to read a comparison between the MM system and the Dexcom system and my use of the Animas Ping. You can read my blog it gives some insights into the two pumps. However, you need to see what feels right for you. Don't let one feature force you into something you may or may not want. You should go with what feels the best for you. However, again the tubing will not be an issue and most people won't even notice it.
I've used both and after trying out the Omnipod for 30 days, I switched back to the paradigm. While I liked the tubeless Omnipod, I had issues with the Pods deactivating one and activating another became a problem. I had a small apartment and if I had the old one near by, the PDM would get confused. I also liked the software better for the paradigm, being able to down load my readings and bolus/basal numbers really helps. At the time, the Omnipod only kept 3 days of readings, a 14 day average and a 30 day average. I hear they came out with new software so maybe someone else can shed more light on that aspect. I also use a sauna and hot tub a couple times a week and they say not to go in that type of heat. It's funny that people worry about getting the tubing caught on things but it's never happened to me. I hear Omnipod is improving though and the production problems they faced while expanding a few years back, when I tried it, are a thing of the past. See if you can try one or both out to see which you like. We're all different so it's a matter of personal taste.
My 16 year old daughter has the Omnipod and has only misplaced her meter (PDM) one time. She loves that there is no tubing and she can wear a dress and pants without pockets. It has been wonderful for her but like everything else you have to try it and see what is best for you.
I think you should try demos of both before you decide. I know you can request a sample pod from the OmniPod site. It won't work, of course, but you can stick it on yourself to see how it feels, whether or not the size of the pod is an issue, how it feels to sleep with it etc. You should also be able to borrow a Minimed pump. I'm not sure if they;d actually give you an infusion set, though. Maybe one without a cannula so you can stick it to yourself and see how it feels being connected to the pump.
I've been using a MM pump for 4+ years and got used to wearing it very fast. I have no issues sleeping with it and since I usually wear jeans or pants I just clip the pump inside a front pocket. The tubing stays under my clothing and I don't think anyone ever notices it.
Whatever you do, demo both pumps. It's a big and important decision, so make sure you make your decision with the best information.
I spent 20 years on a tubed pump (Medtronic/MiniMed) and I just switched to the OmniPod. I LOVE not having to carry around the pump anymore, sleeping and living without tubing and a tangled pump, and the freedom of having the cord cut. Many people worry about the fact that if they don't have the PDM with them, they won't be able to bolus. But this ignores a huge benefit of the OmniPod, which is that you don't have to be tethered with a tube to a pump anymore -- at work, when you're asleep, when you are working around the house, etc.
After 20 years of tubing, I learned to ignore it. But by switching away from it, there is no way I would consider going back to it. It's been awesome.

i have the minni med and the cgm and i like it insted of having the big leach looking think on your tummyy and i would lose the omnipod remote and thats the importent part
i think im probably going with omnipod... when i met nick jonas on friday we were taking about it briefly and he said he liked it and i dont really want people to be able to see it....
my mom wants me to go with the minimed but i dont think i will
You need to go with what you feel better with. I would talk with your mom though to see why she feels that you should go with the Minimed vs. the Omnipod. I mean it is nice to see that Nick Jonas gives his endorsement to the omnipod. If your mom has serious reasons or concerns it would be nice to know what they are. If your concern is with people seeing it, you still need to use the PDM to test and bolus so people will still see what you are doing. Granted the PDM at least is not attached to you, but it is still out there. And truthfully with the pumps with tubing most people have yet to even realize that I have it. I am going on just over a year and most of my friends have yet to realize i am up to something when I eat and bolus. They tend to think I am praying over my meal! :-p Granted I do pray and all, but they tend to think I am praying when I am bolusing.
im trying both infusion sets at the doctor on thursday... i already did the trial omnipod and i liked it. i play hockey and i need somehting that wont get in the way and that i wont have to disconnect cuz my blood sugars go sky high form the adrenaline and stuff at hockey
personally i think you should get a pump.... thats what i have and i love it!!! theres all kinds of cool colors and its not really that noticeable people always think mine is a cell phone!! just put it in ur pocket and no one can see it!! i no someone who tried the omnipod and didnt like it he said that it was too bulgy.... good luck!
