Let's Be Diabetic Friends

Awesome! What city did you visit? Blanchard Springs is a beautiful cavern to visit. I haven’t been there in forever but I would love to go back! Where I live we do not have mountains or pretty caverns, but the Arkansas River runs through our town. The paper mill does too and makes our town smelly!!

Thanks for posting this and starting this thread, its nice to see I’m not the only one dealing with the day to day struggle of Type 1. I noticed you said you’d like to ride a bike, but were scared of too much exercise. From my own experience, I was taught to self regulate my insulin dosage from day one. I was a wildland firefighter and was dead set on getting back to my job when I was diagnosed about 5 years ago. I was taught to do intermittent fasting to get my basal insulin set so I wasn’t going low while exercising. I was also an elite level cyclist. You and everyone here can exercise, just learn about your dosage and how it changes once you’re working out. I carry Cliff Shot Blocks on me all the time, they are an energy chew and literally a lifesaver for me. If you have any questions I’m here to help where I can. Check out this website, it was put together by the hospital I go to and its really helpful. They are all about the patient making their own informed decisions. https://dtc.ucsf.edu/

Oh, and I went on a 3 hour mountain bike ride by myself today with no lows. It is possible, get a CGM and learn what your body is doing.

Yes I would love my first diabuddy! I was misdiagnosed as Type 2 back in October and just recently was told I’m type 1. Meeting with my diabetic educator every week. Just started counting carbs and using sliding scale. It’s all still so new to me. I meet with my endo this month. I’m trying to find good community & support.

What is the groups name on snapchat? I’d love to join!

Unfortunately I don’t remember, this was over 15 years ago, eek!! Haha but I do love to travel and explore other states  Sorry to hear about the yucky paper mill, I know what that smells like! We went on a tour of one in Northern California when I was about 6 or 7. I remember it being really loud too!
Did you ever attend any Diabetic camps as a kid? I was fortunate enough to go to two different ones from the ages of 7-12. It was great! Met so many other T1D’s my age but have lost touch with all of them

Unfortunately, we no longer have that group chat on there anymore. Two people ruined it and a lot of us left. Now we only keep up with each other via text or Facebook. I have a Diabetic Power group on Facebook and it’s public, but people seem to have trouble finding it. If you’re interested, I can send you the picture of the group on Fb if you are interested in joining! :relaxed:

Oh wow! It has been a long time ago then. I am a HOMEBODY especially after all the states except Arkansas contacting a case of this deadly virus. I hope the virus blows over soon and disappears as quickly as the swine flu virus did. We have two paper mills in our county and yes, they are especially loud! I know those who work there end up not being able to hear as well when they’re older which is not fun at all. I know they make ear plugs for a reason!

I did not get to attend any diabetic camps as a kid as I was diagnosed at 16 years old. I was scared those first two years to leave my family and go off anywhere. I didn’t even go on our youth trip the following two years after and then bam I was 18. I will admit, I have found it harder to keep in contact with my diabetic friends I made on this website or in person! I understand we have other lives, but geez it isn’t hard to keep up with someone. That’s why I miss the Snapchat group chat because we were all able to keep up with each other! I might create another one if they’re interested actually. If you’re interested, I could definitely create another one.

The other group chat on Snapchat got ruined by one unhealthy (who knows if he was even diabetic) dude and another guy who wasn’t even diabetic & said he felt bad about eating the food we couldn’t eat. Oh and he even sent a pic of his ice cream topped with syrup and sprinkles. Sooo we were like yep, we’re done. I left my own group!

@vanantva If you are interested still, add me on Snapchat hstanford4 and I will create a new diabetic snap group!

That would be great! Thanks so much

Great! Just add me on Snapchat and I will add you to our group.

Just added you on Snapchat! My name is vanantva
