Less pain for shots any ideas?

Without making this a 'chit chat' post....of course you won Brian!  God is on your side (well, all of ours but you know what I mean).  But Gina.... Juve T-shirt in it for ya on the 16th  hmmm? hummm?

You can't bribe Gina, and we should not turn this into a chit chat page. Cause you could bribe her with a shirt, I would have to offer two shirts and that just ruins everything!

you guys are funny and in reality I am not really the one that needs to be wearing a shirt LOL We need to work on Pat LOLOL

Ok hold on rewind: What i meant was I already wear shirts we need to put shirts on people that don't wear them Haha

ha, Gina,I would never have caught that without the 2nd post here-and yes you will make it on the post count !!

Gina is wise to catch her mistakes before others do... Especially me! I may have commented about the shirt thing, but I will let the naked jokes go unsaid out of deference to her wisdom and age...

July 29 th

today! just reply to however many things and your there!

Today (7/20/09), lol.  Congrats on your 1,000th post Gina : )

Although I am not a big fan of sushi, I just googled "sushi carbohydrates" and this was the first link to show up:

http://www.sushifaq.com/sushi-calories.htm

You will probably find it helpful and may even want to print out the nutritional table to take with you if you are going to a restaurant for sushi.  Bon appétit!  (I don't know how to say that in Japanese!  LOL)

psh. can't have raw fish..then why was i told to eat lots of tuna salad sandwiches? isn't that raw fish??

i usually count it as 2units for every roll(when i was on a 1:15 ratio. now i'm on a 1:10 so it would be 3units)

Hi Sarah - Can I ask why they told you you shouldn't eat raw fish?  I've been eating it for as long as I can remember and always have good control with it.  I have always heard good things about it so I'm very curious to know.   On the sushi side of things - the link Nads added is good.  I have also had the experience where some restaurants will add sugar to the rice to make it taste sweeter which sent my sugar through the roof before I asked about it and figured out why.

Approximate nutritional breakdown of sushi rolls:

Avocado roll:

246 calories, 11g fat, 33g carbs

Spicy tuna roll: 290 calories, 11g fat, 26g carbs

Shrimp tempura roll: 544 calories, 13g fat, 75g carbs

Philadelphia roll (salmon, cream cheese, avocado): 319 calories, 5g fat, 30g carbs

Spider roll (fried soft-shell crab): 317 calories, 12g fat, 38g carbs

California roll: 266 calories, 8.5g fat, 36g carbs

Cucumber roll: 136 calories, 0g fat, 30g carbs

Eel and avocado roll: 372 calories, 17.5g fat, 31g carbs

Tuna nigiri (2 pieces over rice): 240 calories, 1g fat, 27g carbs

Salmon sashimi (2 pieces, no rice): 164 calories, 6g fat, 0g carbs

Sorry if this takes up too much space. Shrinking it down made it messy. I don't eat sushi (Figured God created fire for a reason) but was curious. I found it here: http://whatscookingamerica.net/Appetizers/CaliforniaRoll.htm

I just typed carbs in sushi into my search engine. Enjoy!!!

Sarah-

I also love sushi, and I usually get it from the same place every time, so I think I've got the carbs down pretty well. I just try and guess how much rice is in each roll, knowing that 1/3 cup of rice is 15g. Then, if I get, say the shrimp tempura roll, I add in carbs for the tempura batter, as well as the sauce that is drizzled over the top. So, basically, I just guess on how many carbs are in each roll, but I've gotten it so many times, I'm usually right on.

I have never heard that diabetics can't have raw fish. Personally, I really like raw salmon and the spicy tuna roll, so even if I heard I shouldn't eat it, I probably still would. (=

We aren't supposed to eat raw fish because there could be bacteria b/c it's not cooked and the idea is that we couldn't fight an infection as well if we got one and it could mess up your BS's. I'm usually just careful to go to a reputable place, i.e. not the grocery store. (:

We're also not supposed to have raw oysters for the same reason. I'm assuming steak tartar is out too, lol. (Now, that I wont do!!)

I absolutely love sushi. I never heard that T1's couldn't eat it. I understand that there are certain risk factors in raw food, but that's for anyone.

Lizzy -- sorry to hijack this thread, but I couldn't access your profile to write a comment b/c you're under 18. I saw you're from Springfield, Mass. Did you ever go to Clara Barton Camp near Worchester?

I've never been to camp actually. I wish I had. :D

Order this one from the list (menu) above:

Salmon sashimi (2 pieces, no rice): 164 calories, 6g fat, 0g carbs

You can have a couple of portions and not bolus at all...
and nutritionally this is really good for you.  Obviously,
here they are not including any rice which makes up
much of the carbs in the other dishes.

There are known risks associated with eating raw fish,
but not just for diabetics.  Personally, I prefer my Salmon
and other fish cooked (except Tuna out of the can).
