Yah my fingers definitely look like that:( And I change everytime! They are like huge craters when I get out of the pool or shower haha.
I don't change the lancet in my son's but about once a week sometimes more..just depends...
And something else to keep in mind...and this goes to the blood lickers...hehe...use your alcohol swabs to dab the blood off..that is what I do....LOL!
I'm also a blood licker, and it grosses everyone i know out! Also, I'd hav eto say my lancet change has been at least 10 months. I literally never change it. I dont remember the last time I did.
boy, when I check my sugar, I don't normally have the time to go thru all those steps - take out the old lancet, twist the top off the new lancet, put it in my pen, open a new alcohol swab, wipe my finger, put in the strip, stick my finger, put the blood on the strip, wipe my finger with the alcohol swab, then try to pick up everything to throw it away. I normally need to get it done as fast and as simply as possible since I'm usually running here to there...so I lick my finger (to clean off the hand lotion, well ok 'clean' in my sense of the word! :o) ) stick it, put the blood on the strip then lick the blood off then press my finger on my jeans to stop the bleeding...waa laa - done!
I think if I had all the extra stuff out each time I checked my sugar I would feel like I am getting ready for major surgery with all of these things gathered around me and all those extra steps. And with checking my sugar 9-10 times per day, I need quick and simple! I'm thinking about trying one of the CBGM but not sure that I have the extra $ to pay for it...
Here's to all the blood-lickers! woo hoo!
Hey there all you blood lickers! I've seen a friend of mine just lay a tissue in her glucometer. She leaves it there so she can simply wipe it off. No extra steps for you busy ones. This of course if you want to stop licking your blood. If not... keep on licking!!! :)
I have tried the tissue thing with 1 of 2 results...my fingers either get stuck to the tissue and I end up with little pieces of tissues all over my fingers! Or when my finger does not stick to the tissues, not all of the blood comes off.
Funny that I would think having dried blood on my finger is gross, but licking it off is ok - tee hee! This subject cracks me up!
Every time, I always have.
I always lick my blood... never thought twice about it.... but maybe that is because I grew up with my sister who also has Diabetes.
Also ... never change my lancets... i thought I was the only one with this bad habit... but apparently not, so woohoo!!
we were told to change after every stick, but that doesnt happen- we change about 3 times a day- considering he is checked about 14 times a day, thats not too often. I should change more frequently to keep it nice and sharp..
I only change my lancet when after 4 or 5 tries my fingers won't bleed. Usually there are many months in between my lancet changes. I too am a blood licker : ), as long as I've washed my hands prior to testing. Many people frown upon this action though, so what it's my blood right !?
welllll.....i always forget. like, ALWAYS. Its very sad =). ummm..10 months is quite impressive. i think ive probably gone like 4 months or so, but usually the reason i swich is because i lose the actual poker. =P. heheh. We got a box of lancets right after i got diagnost 3 years ago and its still half full!!! ...or perhaps half empty.....
It's hard to remember to do everything all the time, especially when you can feel how low your blood sugar or you are rushed. I don't change my lancets all the time, but do change it at least once a day.
I rarely change it, I think I've had the same one in there since around Christmas.. Haha.
Blood licker, and very seldom lancet changer. I'm thinking +1 year right now... D'oh.
I have resolved to ensure my hands are clean before testing recently, though. I bought some hand sanitizer that I've been using. Still, that's only one mark under the "positive hygiene skills" and about a hundred marks in the "you are a dirty slimeball and you know it" category.
I need to know A-D, have you changed it since January?
When you're drawing blood from your finger, have you ever had 2 spots (the test spot and another one) bleed at once ? I have, it's kinda funny I think, lol.
BTW, I changed my lancet today ; )
I wanted to see how "new" members would respond to this post, lol. I actually enjoyed it.
Maybe others who've previously replied will update their lancet situation too.
orange_mms,
hehehe - I hear ya' - I've had two or three fingers start bleeding at the same time...
i'm sure i'll change my lancet eventually...
Cheers!
A-D

Orange this happens to me all of the time... I always wondered how that happened!
It has only been recently that I have noticed the oozing from another lancet spot. I guess that means I should try harder to remember what finger I used last!
