I'm 37 and I've been Type 1 for 21 years, I'm planing to start trying to get pregnant in about 6 months, my control is really tight (5.6) but only seem to be able to find really negative information about diabetes and pregnancy!!!
I am 34, type 1 for 22 years and have 2 perfect children and am expecting a third in a few months. And by the way, my A1C was new that incredible pre-pregnancy! You need to find a high risk OB who will support you because I am sure there is more than enough scary info out there :)
I think a lot of the scary info out there is because studies were done of Moms with D with ANY a1c (including really high ones). Also, the medical care continues to improve for us during pregnancy. Per my high risk OB, the risk of birth defects shouldn't be higher if your a1c is in the non-diabetic range.
I have a 2 1/2 year old. The pregnancy was A LOT of work -- constantly testing my BG's, going to the doctor 2-4 times a week, etc. But, it was all worth it and he was (and still is) absolutely healthy. We're considering trying again in the next couple of years, but we're waiting knowing it's a tough 9 months b/c of the D. But, so worth it!!!!!
I'm prepared for the hard work!! I can't think of anything better to be working towards really!
Were you very tired during your pregnancy? I've been told that I will bemore tired than someone without T1........that's quite worrying for me as i have quite a tough job!!

Yeah, I've never been as motivated in my life to take control of my D as when I was pregnant. And, it's had good effects on my control since because I got into better habits while pregnant, and some have continued.
I was def. tired when I was pregnant, but comparing with my friends, I don't think I was more tired. I think it just depends on the person. I could see how the ups and downs of BG's in the 1st trimester probably made me a bit more tired... I'm a speech pathologist who works with children ages birth to 5, so my job is physically active. I can't say I was totally "there" at work while I was pregnant, but I survived, and my coworkers helped me a lot.
Let me know if you have any D/pregnancy questions. I'm happy to help!
