Hi i'm Alyssa, i have been figure skating for 12 years and a diabetic for 10 years and on a pump for 5 years. I really have not met any other diabetic figure skaters and would like to know how others deal with their diabetes while they skate.
i figure skate!!! im trying to land my axel. and prepare for my preliminary freeskate test.
my blood sugar is usually high befroe i skate. after, it is usualy still high and later it comes crashing down. yesterday was a rare occurence when it was low after i skated. all the coaches at the skating club know i have diabetes and there is a stash of juice and other emergency supplies somewhere.

i'm trying to land my double salchow to get my intermediate free.
my doctors told me that the effects of exercise doesn't kick in until the next day, most of the time i don't test before or after i skate but when i did before it was ok, then sometimes it dropped. i'm not even sure who knows anymore but i think most of the coaches probably know if not because i've been there so long, but my coaches get involved and help out in any way they can
hi i used to figure skate. i was landing a double salchow and double loop. i would skate for about three hours a day. and would take breaks in between. but i would make sure i would have everything out on the ice with me, in case my BG would go low. but after about 2 hours after practice it would go high and i would give myself insulin and then i would drop to like 40, so if it goes low during practice don't over do snacks and drinks, just call it a day. hopefully your coach will understand.
Hi!
I've been a figure skater since I was 6 and I absolutely love it still!
I usually wear my pump when I skate, and depending on what my blood sugar is before I skate, I do a temp basal. I always have glucose tabs and granola bars in my skating bag.
:) Let's talk!
i learned part of my new solo today! it is to music from the twilight movie!
I have been figure skating for 4 years and have had diabetes for 3 1/2. i wear an omnipod and lower my basal when i skate. recently i have been going low after skating and i think its because i am doing harder skills. I i have landed all my single jumps and am working on my pre-juvenile moves.
do any of you have any advice for taking the preliminary freeskate teast? its my first test
