Interesting article on smart insulin being developed

jdrf.org/.../beyond-insulin-what-should-you-know

JDRF is developing better treatments that “reset” the missing hormonal balance, and thus transform the way people with T1D treat the disease today to help them live healthier lives now and in the future. For instance, JDRF-funded scientists are in the beginning stages of development of a glucose-responsive insulin (GRI) that would work only when the body needs it.

This one seems more realistic to me, at least in the short term. endeavors.unc.edu/the_nano_network It is basically a sort of nanoparticle network containing insulin that would break down gradually in the presence of blood glucose. The more glucose, the faster the breakdown. It would require an injection every few weeks. I think this is a potentially closer solution as opposed to what the jdrf is looking at, which is control of the entire endocrine system.

Sounds great to me.

I would prefer a fix for the entire system because insulin/diabetes is not my only problem but I will take anything that will work!

I also noticed that was developed for Type2.  I am wondering if the auto immunue problems with T1D, would pose more problems?   I may have to wait longer but I like what JDF is doing.
