I'm also newly pregnant, just over 6 weeks. I have an ultrasound tomorrow & first ob appt Thursday. This is my second pregnancy, I have a 2yr old son and just can't get it together blood sugar/eating wise as I did last time.
I know life is totally different and it's to be expected, but somehow I need to get some structure or something! Last time I prepared for months before hand so by the time I was pregnant I was eating very regimented, 3 or 4 different breakfast and lunch options that I rotated, I ate at the same timeof day, relatively same ammount of carbs and tested 2hrs after. Now, at that time I had an office job, sat in a cubicle, brought my breakfast, snacks and lunch, tested at the same time, came home to a husband home at 5:30-6pm each night, we did dinner together and had a notebook full of our regular meals and how many carbs they were.
Now- I have a 2 1/2 yr old son, husband works 4-11hr shifts (home after 8 4days a week). I eat breakfast w/my son, we share food and I eat whatever he leaves over or whatever of mine he hasn't eaten. I snack randomly in the morning and usually don't eat lunch until after he's napping, 2-3pm. Dinner I have been trying to eat w/him b/t 6-7, instead of waiting for my husband and us eating at 8:30-9 b/c I'm falling asleep at that time!
See the problem? And since having a child and being home much more, I've learned to bake and love it! So I've been in the habit of treating lows w/cookies!. I'm seeing a new endocrinologist tomorrow. I'm going to tell her I need some stucture and hopefully hearing her expectations will give me a starting point. I honestly hope she has some strict expectations. I've thought that I will start with treating lows appropriately (glucose tabs or apple juice) and try to eat a clear 30-40carb breakfast (maybe go back to having 2-4 to pick from in rotation). I may ask her to refer me to a nutritionist to talk about pregnancy guidelines. Last time one of the hardest parts was eating more carbs b/c I was on such a low carb diet while preparing to get pregnant. If only that was all this time!
Thanks for reading. I don't know that I have a specific question, just need some support. I guess I'm sort of worried I'm being too relaxed and need to find a way to get more in pregnancy eating mindset.
