I tested my bs awhile ago and it was 198, then I just tested it now and it went up and I hadn't eaten anything so I tested it again just to be sure and it went from 231 to 213. So... I did a control test thing... and that's normal... so I'm wondering what's going on...Why is it jumping all over the place? Is that normal? I did like 5 or 6 tests, on two different meters, and they are totally randomly all over between 209 and 230 on both meters all within like 5 minutes. This doesn't seem to happen normally...There must be something I am just not getting... It's been looong day lol.
There can be up to a 40 point difference between each test. It bothers me at time more in dealing with lows that they can be that off but its normal.
The FDA allows home glucose meters to have results that vary by as much as 20%. It could be your meter just being itself, or maybe you ate some high-fat food earlier? Now that I have a CGM and can watch what happens after pizza, etc., I know that my numbers are a little "hilly" while I'm digesting, going up and back down, then back up and down.
Hmm...I did just get a new meter so I guess I just never noticed it before. Thanks!
New meter brand, or new meter? When I changed meters I made sure I had plenty of extra strips for the old meter and did 2 tests one on old and one on new to see how close the different brands were. I did notice that the Accu Chek brand seem to be off a lot more than the One Touch and Bayer Contour meters. As stated earlier FDA regulations allow 20% difference in readings.
One thing that may give different numbers is using different fingers/hands for consecutive tests. Because of blood flow and the capulary action you will find your index finger will be different than your middle finger, and same with using the same finger on the right hand vs the left hand.
I got a new meter from the same brand. And I did use different fingers and different hands. But I've never had this problem before so I was just freaked out. It's good to know all that tho!
it also could just be because were girls..... haaha
I agree with Madison, not that I am female, because I am not, but diabetes is a constant roller coaster ride. I eat the same breakfast, calorie for calorie, carb per carb the same daily and my glucose readings at lunch vary tremendously. There is so much more going on than just insulin. Adreneline, stress, activities, whatever varies every day. Gee whiz. It is frustrating.

[/quote]I really like the way you worded that. It's so true!
