How many times a day do you check?

I check on average 13 times a day, my doctor is thrilled he says I don't need the continuous monitor for that reason.

Even with the CGMS I still average about 5 or so times a day. Some days less others more. I like to still keep things accurate when I eat.

I would think that testing 13 or more times per day would be even more of a reason to have a CGM.  Less trauma to your fingers!

With a CGM you'd be able to test as many times per day as you'd like with no trauma whatsoever.

i do have the censor but i dont use it because i dont have enough sites to use it on, i have almost no body fat :( one of the few things disappointing about being skinny and diabetic.

Greg, I want to know how you have the motivation to test that many times a day. I'll be good for a couple weeks at a time, then my mind and fingers will burn out. Major props to you

I test 1-2 times per day.  I started out averaging about 6, but I haven't been so disciplined since.

Let's see what I'm out now, out of curiosity... Hm, 64.  Yeah, I felt a little low.

my motivation=good health haha

no really though i check before i do major things like drive, eat, sports, or bed.  Those happen frequently.  I also like seeing trends and the only way to analyze is to check often.  In the morning I'll check when i wake up, bolus, then check about a half an hour later to see if the insulin is reacting and if it is i go ahead and eat otherwise i change my site.

:) i use all my fingers too

wow! i'm so impressed with how many times a day you test! nicely done! I average about 4 times a day, but after reading your post i think i'm going to try and test a little more often and see if my sugars change!

that's wonderful to hear! :)  This is a great community, I hope we all have a positive affect on each other's lives

Montana checks her BG every time she eats or feels low and she can check it over 15 times a day...especially when she's got a high reading and is making sure it is going down.  She is a trooper and we are about 17 months into this.  The only thing I'm getting onto her about it switching hands since she is right handed all she does is test her left hand and it's getting calloused.

i average 5 a day i'd say.

it's only higher when I have lows or when my activity levels change.

for example... next week i'll be starting my 9 hour/day babysitting for 3 boys. that's when i'll be checking at least 6-8 times during hte day lol

I usually check 3 or 4 times daily. Uness I'm feeling really high or low then I check it.

I'm averaging about ten times a day, but many of that is seeing if lows are coming up. I seem to need a different amount of basal insulin every day, and end up in the 60s for hours at a time. I'm also pretty hypo-unaware, so testing often means i catch lows sooner.

I had been testing 12 - 18 times a day before CGMS.  Even after using the CGMS for a year I still test quite often, 8 -12 times a day.  More if a sensor hasn't been tracking accurately or if I'm sick, running high for some reason or very active.  I test more frequently when I forst insert a new sensor and when I know one is dying (the isig drops, tends to not catch my higher numbers).  When I've got a good sensor going I've tested as little as 5-6 times a day.

I am hypo unaware so I really do have to test often.

I don't see how anyone can stand testing ten times a day or more.  That's amazing.

I average between 4-6.  I test a lot more often when I'm walking/biking/swimming, etc. though.

I check my self daily 1-4.

I average 4 times per day.
