Hour and half ultrasound next visit?

Hey everyone,

I am currently 15 wks and 5 days!! I had my ob appt today and everything so far is looking good! My A1c is down to 5.8!!! Next visit in 5 wks will be another ultrasound which he said will take and hour and a half!!! Why will it take so long???? Is this normal for the u/s at about 21wks to be this intense??? Just wondering whats going to happen at this next u/s??

For me, the 18 wk u/s was pretty intense.  I don't know if I would say 1 1/2 hrs, but by the time you figure in the doc appointment too that's probably about right.  They check EVERYTHING.  If you are having an amnio for any genetic testing or anything that will add time too.  I wouldn't worry about it- sounds like par for the course to me.

At around 20 weeks, you find out the gender too!!

The ultrasound will look at the baby's growth and anatomy. They make sure the heart, kidneys, brain, stomach, bladder, etc. have developed properly. I work with perinatologists and they often tell patients that they should expect to be at the office for 1.5 hours, but that usually includes checking in, filling out paperwork, waiting if the doctors are behind schedule (especially at high risk centers things can come up and one patient might take longer to see than they were originally scheduled for). The ultrasound itself will probably be around 30-45min I would guess.
