Prior to college, I was actually homeschooled every year except in Kindergarten, 4th, and 7th grade.
Homeschooling is great if you're naturally curious and have a variety of other kinds of non-school social outlets available to you. Contrary to popular belief, homeschooling isn't all about right wing evangelical protests and chaining kids to the basement or something, but be prepared that many people still think this, so you'll have to explain your family's decision a lot (*groans*). Depending on how long your brother has been homeschooled, you may be aware of all that already, though. ;)
As for diabetes, it's definitely advantageous to have the freedom to test your blood sugar more often without people staring at you and wondering what you're doing so much. Get away with it while you can if your family decides to homeschool, because you probably won't have that testing luxury with future jobs.
Thanks Khendra, my brother has been homeschooled for about a year now....I have a friend that has diabetes too and is homeschooled we write to each other and she had a idea that she could write a letter to my mom and dad saying why it is bet that I be homeschooled with diabetes....And my dad was homeschooled....I just dont want to have to deal with all the people that think that are better than me cause I have diabetes and they dont. I also dont want to have to deal with people looking at me weird cause I have my pump site in my arm or why I was not at school one day.
Honestly if that is your reason for wanting to be home schooled I wouldnt do it. people do not suddenly change after high school they still behave the same. You will have to deal with them all through life hiding from them wont prepare you for that. I did home school the first year we moved here and well it will be the last time. I did it to protect my boys and well it didnt work out the way it should have it didnt help them but hurt them. I dont believe we can protect ourselves from the world by hiding from them we protect ourselves by learning to cope in the world. Its just how I feel about it at the time Riley was not t-1 but my boys are autistic so my reason at the time is the same as yours I just didnt want them to have to deal with it. Parent fail on my part big time.
im homeschooled my mom dont want me to go to public school Because of my diabetes i love being homeschooled.
I and my three older siblings where homeschooled all the the way. I love it!! You are able to check anytime with nobody wondering about, and only your parents to monitor you.
I've never really gotten many people who think homeschooling is wierd, most of my public-schooled friends are just like "ok". The only thing we have had is when we moved and one of the guys who was giving us an estimate asked my mom if us kids had any friends
yea them is a lot of things i like About being homeschooled.
