Favorite person/idol with diabetes

I think Nick Jonas is my favorite so far -- he actually admits it, tells his story, and helps to raise for the JDRF and everything to make a difference, I appreciate that a lot .. he's not like James Cameron and productions paying out $ 500 MILLION to make a movie when there are things to be done still with type 1 and other important issues..

Didnt Halle Berry think she cured herself or something and doesnt take insulin, tries to just diet and exercise.. ??

ohh and Brett Michaels, he has Type 1 too :)

I love the quote you chose of "please dont ask me if I can eat that"

because I swear I got to the point & my boyfriend -- he has type 1 -- just dx last year 2008 in july at age 19, is 20 now..

people who dont know us -- and his family because theyre dumb .. and clueless -- seriously they cant even use his meter.. and think he should just run in circles basically to keep his numbers in check, not take insulin --

people ask "can you eat that" "should you eat that" .. last person to do that i didnt even knwo and I had gotten him reese cups -- the 0NLY junk food he eats .. and they're not that bad; .. my cousin is a guy i was talking to who is my bf [since january 14, 2005, so 5 years] is his friend.. well

a guy talkin to him says "if he has diabetes why are you getting him THAT .. he CANT have that.. you SHOULDNT give him that .. why would YOU do that"
I replied " excuse me, I dont know you and didnt ask for your opinion but to clear things up -- you didnt spend a week at the medical center with him being educated and I did -- you dont keep track of carbs WE DO -- you dont know what you're talking about so dont give an uneducated, stupid, personal 'what you think' opinion but since you have let me give you one -- do you think YOU should be getting that junk food and carb rich food you have selected -- considering your weight is not ideal and you are a candidate for type 2"  .. needless to say he shut up.. my cousin stated "in all fairness I warned you as soon as you started that she would RIGHTFULLY let you have it " .. haha

i hate that too.. lol and my BF actually tells them he has more freedom b/c he has insulin to take to compensate whatever he eats; they dont.. lol

i would have to say nick jonas. not that i am a big fan of his music or anything, but i admire that he has created a lot of awareness and will often meet with type 1 fans, etc. I believe he said when he was first diagnosed he asked why me, then thought why not me. I think it is good that he uses his position of fame to try to make things better for others living with type1:)

Well, she doesn't have diabetes, but when she was younger, they thought she did. She had to take her blood sugars a lot and everything, but after a whhile they told her she wasn't. My new friend Sam from a group called the Young Americans. She's an amazing dancer and singer, and she really inspired me in the last three days! :)

Thomas Edison, B.B. King, Miles Davis

Adam Morrison because of his really cool moustache.

Ray Allen of the Celtics - his kid has Type 1, and he and his wife are now on the board of the Joslin Clinic...They raise money and spread awareness every chance they get.

Does he still sport that thing?  I remember him getting flak when he played at Gonzaga for it.  Good times.

It used to be Adam Morrison for me... still have his Bobcats jersey, but he was kind of a let down for us here in Charlotte.  Now I usually think of Jay Cutler.  At least he's a let down for Chicago and not for me! haha

Definitely Nick Jonas.  I can't stand the Jonas Brothers music (sorry, but I don't think I'm their target audience anyway!) but I love what he's done for raising awareness and raising money for JDRF.  He's using his position of fame and influence for a very, very good cause and I have a lot of respect for that.  It would have been easy for him to not talk about it, try to hide it, or just be very private about it.

I know this wasn't the question, but my LEAST favorite celebs with diabetes are Halle Berry and Brett Michaels.  I think they do a lot of damage by creating confusion of what T1 diabetes is and how to live with it in a healthy way.
