Most anything metal...Opeth, In Flames, Ensiferum, Empyrium, Kataklysm to name a few. Other than that I like classical/opera.

Hahaha. This made me laugh. You went from naming off a bunch of metal bands that you like, and then throw it in there that you also like classical/opera. That's quite a broad taste of music there. I'm not saying that's bad- I like classical, too. I'm not into metal, though.
I listen to almost everything. My favorite styles are Jazz, Blues, Classical, C&W, and Rock.
Some of my favorite artists: Billy Cobham, Willie Nelson, Living Colour, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Handel, Weather Report, Eddie Boyd, BB King, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Jimmy Vaughan, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Rich, Frank Sinatra, Train, Linkin Park, Maroon 5, Red Hot Chile Peppers, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Art Blakey, Horace Silver, Bach, Miles Davis, Hank Jones, Jimmy McGriff, Keith Emerson, Asleep at the Wheel
I could probably go on a lot longer but will stop for now ...
I'll listen to anything although recently I've gravitated to heavier/harder metal/rock. To name a few...
Marilyn Manson, Godsmack, Three Days Grace, The Offspring, Cold, Stone Sour, Disturbed, Metallica (older songs), Megadeth, Orgy, Powerman 5000, Suicidal Tendancies, Slayer, Muse, Hollywood Undead, System Of A Down, Eric Clapton, Breaking Benjamin, Techno/Dance stuff (DJ Tiesto, Cascada (don't laugh!)), and Sixx A.M.
Sarah, I don't know if you'll ever be able to listen to metal without covering your ears, but you might recognize some similarities between metal and classical/opera. The pieces in these areas are typically longer than other genres, allowing them more room to evolve. Some pieces are extremely technical, others perhaps more basic but effective at communicating emotion. I don't know of any originally written in english...at least not in the past. Audiences are required to focus on the emotion and stage theatrics to understand the music. A lot of metal is performed in english, but not immediately understandable, so the same applies to them. Many metal bands use orchestral or choir performers on their recordings. Check out Apocalyptica...accepted as metal in many areas, but simply 4 cello performers.
Kate, favorite musicals include My Fair Lady, The Kind and I, and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.

As a cellist, I approve of and admire the skill of Apocalyptica and love their cover of "One" by Metcallica. I also regret not mentioning them in my original post :-/
See link below for their live performance of "One"
Here's what I Hate: "House Music" aka: the crappiest club music ever!

its not everyone's "cup of tea" but i like it..when its played by good DJs. i know a lot of DJs(my city is very creative-orientated) and i love dancing to it when i've had a few. very upbeat and fun!
we had a DJ party for new years at my place, four of our friends DJ'ed and it was awesome. we're doing it again for my 22nd birthday/our last house party before the lease is up!
I guess there are different types of house music and the DJ totally does make a difference. But I am sure you know what I am talking about... the kind that has been so watered down that it is practically "easy listening". Ha Ha :)

haha that's not house music..that's elevator/department store music :P
i listen to everything but country. (pop, yes i listen to boy bands, R&B, rock, rap/hip hop, reggae, latin, etc)
i dont have a favorite band, it changes every day. All Time Low, Varsity Fanclub, My Favorite Highway, Parachute, NLT, and Backstreet Boys are a few of the bands I listen to.
My favorite band is definitely Muse. They're a British alternative rock band, I highly recommend them. But I'll listen to pretty much any rock/metal/punk/techno. Only thing I hate is rap and country.
Hey, my brother is an artist and his newest song talks about Juvenile Diabetes and at the end he advertises for JDRF. He has made a lot of donations to JDRF... anywho here is the link.. check it out
