so we got a dummy pump today to try for three days... and tonight at bath time i realized we didnt discuss this at the class or i missed it.
so i unhooked the tubing from the pump and coiled it up around the site and taped it to my sons arm with scotch tape.. and taped the little end that hooks it to the pump so no water got in it. I assume thats about as redneck as it gets but i was really clueless what to do
so for a real pump what do you do for a bath/shower? does that tubing just dangle in the shower? need some ideas before tomorrows bath!
We unhook the pump at the site and then put the cap on the inset (part on his skin). The tubing stays attached to the pump. We are relatively new to pumping also. There is also a cap for the end of the tubing. Good luck.
Nicole what dummy pump are you using? And what infusion set are you using? When I bathe I have the option of at the infusion site of removing the clip and having the tubing stay attached to the pump, not having the tubing stay with me when I shower.
we are trying the animas ping. someone mentioned some caps... we do not have these. maybe with a real pump we would get them but they are not in our kit.

wow they just sent you a box without explanation??? the real infusion set has a plastic cap near the skin. It has a place you squeeze and then the cap twists off the infusion set site. when the set is disconnected, it kinda resembels wearing a bandaid with a plastic hub in the middle.. The tubing stays with the pump. Animas has really poor pictures on their website, but if you go look, it might give you the idea.
the dummy pump was a success for us. After we figured it out. We just had a little class at the doc. office and there were 3 little guys that tried the dummy pump. the nurse basically told us about pumps, costs, insurance, and that kind of stuff than said do you want to try it? the boys said yes and put it on them and we were free to go. I dont think she realized she never told what to do once we were home she probably figured it was a dummy pump we do nothing... but some of us arent familiar with pumps or diabetes so i was really clueless. i was a little paniced at first. but thank you guys for all the help! we are ordering our pump now, and should be pumping by the end of november.
