I am just finishing my first trimester of the Dexcom 6 . My transmitter began working only intermittently - about 50% of time working and 50% of the time not working (no readings) - during my 2nd to last sensor. I have about 5 days left of my last sensor before I change it out and start my new transmitter. Is this common? Does the transmitter do this at the end of each 3 month cycle - or is this unusu
al?
I just started my second G6 transmitter a few weeks ago and I got consistent readings with the first one until it finished. Since yours is not giving you the reliable and consistent readings you need I should think they would replace it even though it’s so close to the end of its life cycle. At the very least call and report it as a quality control issue.
I had the same experience and the second transmitter failed at day 59…so I’m not nearly as happy as most people. My several years on the gt5 was a much better experience. I hope the g7 is better and comes out soon…or the Libre3. I’m ready to try any other cgm at this point.
Hi @Grumpy. I haven’t even started thinking about future generations of technology but you’re anticipating a G7 and Freestyle 3 - I had to Google them to see their features.
I’m sorry you’ve had such challenges with your G6. The only transmitter issue I’ve had is that my first one have me a 3 week(?) warning but it gave it unexpectedly when 21 days were almost up. It made it to 90 days but I thought I was going to get a warning that it would give out in a matter of days. Thankfully I already had my replacement on hand. I keep a couple of Freestyle Libres on hand as well, just in case.
That is unusual because that means that your transmitter is defective and not working properly. I’ve called to request a replacement before because it didn’t last the full 3 months. You shouldn’t have to deal with that. The Dexcom technical support could replace that for you.
@wadawabbit LOL… I wouldn’t be looking either if I had a good experience. IF hadn’t had such a good G5 experience, I probably would be pretty happy with the G6. As a side note, I really hope the Free Style Libre3 can provide some competition to Dexcom. We need good options for everybody in the club and competition makes the products better for all
We have also had the same problem with our son’s G6 transmitters dying early. When we call Dexcom support, nothing has been offered except buying a new set of sensors with a fresh transmitter. They need to have extra transmitters available and covered by insurance.
They should uphold the warranty on the transmitter. I don’t know if the sensors have a warranty per se but I’ve always had good experience when I’ve called tech support. My next step would be reaching out to my Tandem rep.
I have had the sensors give out early, but never the transmitters.
There is a way to get the G6 Transmitter to “work again” for another 3 months. It requires some equipment, find the documents and videos online, and some skills we don’t possess. But maybe posting that this is possible, will help a more technically-able person.
If your sons Dexcom transmitter is dying early then you should be able to get a replacement. For example, I called a while ago because it said that the transmitter was low on battery and within an hour it died. When I called Dexcom they sent us A new sensor and a new transmitter, and a kit to send the broken transmitter to them again. I don’t understand why they aren’t offering you a replacement.
