AHHH I am so frustrated! I've talked to my trainer AND the clinical manager for animas in the East and noone knows what the issue is and what I need to do. Below is the situation, anyone have anything they can tell me that may ease my worries or help me out!??!

Anyway! So it was 9PM and I had eaten at 8PM. Let's say I had 3u on board and I went to eat another 20g at 9PM and put in, it suggested 1.8u which I took. After though, I noticed that it hadn't minused the IOB that I had from the dinner. (My BS was 7.5 (135) which is my set target, no range for that time frame of the day)
After I bolused, I freaked out and remembered that it hadn't minused the IOB like it usually does.. it showed it there but didn't minus it out. I did a test though about 5 minutes later to see what my pump would of suggested if I had been at 7.4 (133) and at 7.6 (136) It minused both times for the IOB. I don't understand why it would minus the IOB at 7.4 and at 7.6 but not at 7.5??
If there's a logical reason for this then fine, but as a new pumper with enough issues to deal with, it scares me to think that there might be added issues going on?

Animas does not subtract IOB for carbs, only for BG. So if you are higher than target, it will suggest you take more, and if you are lower than target it will suggest you take less, but it will never subtract from the amount to cover carbs.

My Medtronic pump doesn't subtract IOB for carbs either. Sometimes I wish it did. If I'm planning to eat and my BG is < 100 mg/dl with more than 1u of IOB, I'll manually lower the total bolus amount. I use 100 just as an example-- it also depends on how long it's been since I've eaten and what I ate.
My OmniPod does the same thing...sometimes it counts the IOB and sometimes it doesn't - sometimes it shows there is none there when I just bolused an hour ago and everyone knows there is some left. I don't understand that and it frustrates me too!
Thanks for all you guys' answers! Still not sure everyone completely understands what I'm saying though. Ok so the Ping DOES minus for carbs, it only doesn't minus for carbs if you're BS is the same as your past meal. Since this IOB scare, if I eat an hour after my past meal and I know my carb count for my dinner was perfect, I will use the same BS # as for my last meal to enter my new carbs or use the manual method and bypass the ezCarb option.
It doesn't make sense that it substracted out let's say 3.5u IOB for my reading @ 7.4 and it substracted out the SAME (3.5u IOB) for my reading at 7.6 (as my tests) and not for when I was PERFECTLY on target. This is very confusing and I understand if noone knows what I mean!
This is the answer I got from the Animas Clinical Manager/nurse and T1 herself after she called Pump Support yesterday. Please tell me what this means if you understand more than I do. It's SO clinical and I wish she would have given me a more 'to life' answer.

Hi Andree, So I spoke to Pump Support today to get a specific answer to your question. Here goes:
At 7.5, your BG was at target so no correction is recommended.
At 7.6, the IOB is subtracted from the micro correction (i.e. the insulin to bring you from 7.6 to 7.5…) but it is not subtracted from the food bolus because you are considered to be above target.
At 7.4, you are now below target and so the pump will subtract IOB from the food bolus.
The clinical difference of these 3 BG’s is negligible (they are all essentially the same), however the pump doesn’t have the logic to realize this. It goes based on where the current BG is relative to the target BG and since you have a single digit as your target, it will make different recommendations based on essentially the same BG’s. Does this make sense?
The solution would be to input a small target range in which no correction or adjustment occurs i.e. 6.5 +/- 0.5 which creates a range of 6.0 to 7.0 and in order for any dose adjustment to occur the BG has to be greater than 7.0 or less than 6.0. I think this makes more sense….if I haven’t completely confused you!!
