Allergy to the tape?

I've been on the Minimed insulin pump for almost 6 years now, and I love it!  I never had problems initially, but within the last year or so, Ive started developing itching and irritation at my insertion sites.  I haven't changed the sets I use (quickserts) or the swabs (IV prep).  Anyone with similar issues or solutions?  It occurs within 12-24 hours of inserting a new site, and it's quite frustrating...

This may sound lame, but IV Prep? If I'm thinking correctly that's the sort of sticky one, right, not the regular alchohol swab? This may not have anything to do with the allergy, but I believe when I went on a pump I was told not to use IV Prep for the infusion sites. I think I was given that for my CGM... however, I could be wrong :)

You use alcohol swabs for the CGM and IV prep for the pump insertion.... but it's best to call your doctor just in case...

Really...?
I thought it was the other way around :) I'll have to check the books

I have always used IV prep for my pump site, and alcohol swab for my CGM.

I also have problems with allergies to my site any kind, i was always told it was because i have sensative skin, and over the years i have gotten use to it, i have been on the pump for almost 8 years now.

I just started the pump a couple of months ago, and this was a major problem to begin with! It seems with tape allergies, once you get them, with each exposure the symptoms get worse. It got to a point where I was changing sites almost everyday. My pump trainer/CDE suggested a product called Cavalon, which has been a complete blessing. For a while, I was afraid that I would wind up back on shots, thankfully this product really works!

Hope this helps. Good luck.

My reactions to the pump tape were bad. Not only itching and red,  but the cannula would clog.

None of the prep wipes worked for me.

my insurance sent me IV plastic barriers and they didn't work either. However I eventually founded protective barrier wipes. I can't wear my pump without them

I wanted to revive this post. I had a bad run in again with IV prep tape.
I had a temp CGM put on with prep tape and O-MAN I had a mean red reaction. 2 days after it was taken off I still have bumps in a square where the tape was. My nurse felt so bad for me! She vowed to have prep pads ordered for the next person.
Remember the Prep Pads.
