This is a really cool idea. Does anyone have one?
My pharmacist told me about this last week - he figured since I'm a gadget gal I'd like it. I do, but here in Canada it costs $100 to purchase. I don't have that kind of money to put out for a meter sad to say. It's not covered by provincial plan in my province of Quebec either, so not sure how well it will do. Maybe I'll ask for it for Christmas?

hi Orange-mms :) I do want that meter-looked for one the other day at the Wal-Mart pharmacy.They didn't have them..I wonder if insurance would pay something on them ? anyway it would be nice if Bayer would give a rebate or something to help us out. I have this meter! I just switched from the onetouch ultra mini. This meter is amazing! The strips require a small amount of blood (half the size of the onetouch strip's amount). The display is really bright and vibrant. It allows you to make notes such as before and after meal, sick, activity, stress, and others when checking your blood sugar. It highlights high and low blood sugar is orange too. My favorite part about it is that when you plug it into your computer, it creates charts, graphs, and a logbook for you of your blood sugars. You can print them out or display them on your computer in different time increments too (1 month, 2 months, and so on). The meter holds up to 2,000 readings and can be charged when plugged into your computer or into the wall with a charger. When you register your meter with Bayer, you also get a free gift. I chose to get lancetsbecause they are multicolored. When you buy the meter you get 1 vial of test strips and a package of lancets. I am still so excited by this meter. I think it's great.
The whole printing-off-a-logbook thing is awesome. When I discovered that my Ping software would do that for me, I think I scared my husband, because I yelled "Holy sh** you're KIDDING!"
I have this meter and I completely love it! You can track trends with it and plug it in and print the data for your doctor the same way you would with a cgm monitoring system. The best part is that I can use this with my mac because it is compatible with Mac and PC!! This may not mean much to everyone here but, It does to me...
So, I'm curious, for those of you who have it already (as usual it comes always later into Canada and other parts of the world)) - did your insurance cover some or ALL the purchase price. I'm still not sure because of the larger amount of blood it requires (5 microlitres compared to the 3 that my Freestyle Lite uses). I test on average 8x a day - so the less blood I have to give out to these vampire machines - the better :).

I think I've just been sold on having to try this meter! I <3 mac compatible things! I wish my blackberry could hook-up to my mac and actually be useful! haha

I would ask your pharmacist if there is a deal where you buy X amount of strips and get the meter free. I've never paid for a meter in my life, nor has my mom ever paid for one. When I got the OneTouch UltraSmart for free, I stopped upgrading(already had the OneTouch Mini so I was already a fan of the company), though I've been GIVEN meters for free like the Freestyle Lite cuz the company was trying to get people to use them).
When I had to replace my OneTouch cuz my mom ran over it by mistake(long story), we got it for free from my pharmacist and then when my kit was stolen from my car's trunk while I was at a show downtown, all I had to do was buy a box of strips to get a brand new one free. Often they are given loads of meters to give out as they see fit, other times you need to buy them.
That might just be in BC, but I would check anyways :)
I have also gotten meters free both from my doctor, and at JDRF Walks. You just have to ask! :)
Hey Batts / Kim - not for this meter - Phamacist won't give it away due to all the bells 'n whistles it has. I did try my best - putting on a pouty face, etc. He knows I love gadgets, and the day after he'd been shown the product called me up right away about it since he knows I work as a diabetic mentor. Alas, no $$$'s to spare, and of course, it's that darn size of vampire blood that gets to me. I've had previous meters where if you don't have that correct droplet of blood, and with some you can't keep on "filling it up" like some meters allow you to do, then there goes a $1 strip. As you can tell, I was not blessed with patience :)
I see my endo in July, so will ask him about it, and maybe if he gives me a prescription for it, my hubbys insurance company "might" cover it. They did pay for 80% of the insulin pump back in 2008 (they must be wondering why I'm not ordering up supplies for it while I take this guinea pig experiment of MDI).

well I wish you luck! I'm happy with my UltraSmart, so I probably won't which anytime soon(especially if I'm not gonna get it for free! haha).
I'm sure they are happy you are taking a break from the pump, MDI supplies are SO much cheaper for them than pump supplies!

I think about this a lot. For instance, I have a script for testing 15-20 times/day, when i actually test 5-7, so it lasts me 3 months, but i only have a one month copay. Same with insulin. I only get them every three months, and i always half expect my insurance company to call and say "so... we've noticed you're only diabetic a third of the time..."
