hardly? hunni they know nothing about it. I know exactly what you men. my friends parents are doctors and their all like uhh you can;'t eat that or here your only allowed to have this much. and im all like i know your doctors and whatnot but SHUT UP!!!!" we always fight. so were always yelling. their like children. but they have no idea what their talkign abotu when it comes to me and how i manage myslef. dang i can't type. LOL
Ya exactrly! It bothers me!! ughhh hahah
Pretty much point is...You cant say anything unless you experience what we experience...but yea i hated that when my uncle is in town...just cause he works in the medical field he thinks he knows what i can and can not eat...he has told me i cant have diet soda cause its bad for me as in it effects my blood sugar or sumthin...but yea there has to be universal law that states you cant say anything unless you have exp....but there are times i have to admit that there has to be sum one there to tell us what we are doing wrong...cause we can eat w/e we want as long as we take a shot to cover it, but we shouldnt cause it makes us fatter and then we become more resistant to insulin....but i wouldnt tell my friends if i was diabetic. but i guess your situation is that your 15 and they think you cant think for yourself
Yepp ur right! and i may be 15 but im a teenager and i know what i can and cant do unlike a 3 year old! lol and im sorry about your uncle! and ur right people cant say anything unless they experience what we do
I only got one thing to say...I agree!!! People drive me bonkers when they do that!
I don't even understand why they feel like they have the right to give me advice about my disease. I would never challenge the way other people take care of illnesses other than diabetes.
I totally agree. I have lived with this my whole life and it never really stops, so we might as well get use to it, roll your eyes at them and inform them that you know how to take care of yourself.
Good luck!
it really annoys me when people mistake type 1s 4 type 2s!!!!!! like one time @ my family reunion @ dinner i had 52 carbs (not that much, no?) and l8r my cousin who came in an RV had like 5000 packs of gum and tic tacs (all sugar free!) and my grandma found out. she called me upstaris and my grate aunt mirium whos a type 2 was with her. she starts reading the back of the gum and stuff. shes like u can hav wut, lik 45 carbs in a meal? i said no i had 52. shes like o my god no you can't hav these (they had 2 grams in them) i tried xplaining dat im T1 not T2 and she said i know all about diabets and u cant hav it. i never got my gum back :(
Adriana, I'm so sorry to hear about this! You just got bullied and ganged up on, that Is not a fair fight! I would have said that i would burn more calories by chewing that gum then it contains.
I very rarely get people telling me what to do with my diabetes, probably because I'm a brute and will spout off a book full of info about this disease and drown people in information if they start with me.
Be strong my diabetic brothers and sisters.
my friends are like that . one even tells me wen i should check my bg
I cant stand it when my friends and family do that. I mean i know they are just looking out for me and all but still....
My mom's side of the family does that all the time and my dad side i like my dads family...And sometimes my friends do that but my mom family does that the most
Jefff i agree with u! and hahaha i love that word!!
Ya Ariana i dont understand either.. ik in a way they r trying to look out for us but to me they r doing it in the wrong way!
Adriana! I feel ya on this one. My 2nd aunt is a type 2 and she always is trying to compare my blood sugars with hers and expecially wat she eats. Like i went to have a doughnut one day after church and she was like omg nooo stop put that down! and i was like y thinking she was going to say it was someone elses but instead she says thats way to many carbs and bad for ur blood sugar and u cant eat it and i straight up said im done with u acting like u know everything about type one when u dont and i said ik what i can and cant do so leave me alone! and she still continues it really bothers me!
Bowen i have a friend like that too. its really annoying.. they act like they r my doctor
Amber Buller, people without type 1 think they know what it is and how to act on it because, I believe, the media tells them that all diabetes is a direct result of being overweight and making bad health decisions.I also think that people also say really inappropriate things about another's decisions because they have not the first idea that their knowledge is limited in any way, and they jump to conclusions because they have never learned how to think for themselves or look at any declared truth as possibly wrong. People are encouraged to remain passive, sit back and let life tell them what to do...they are afraid of things that are different as well, so they hide their fear by saying inappropriate and rude things to others.
Most people do what you describe now because they have forgotten how to imagine another person's feelings and life, and sometimes they say things that are awfully ignorant because they depend on the dumb solution...maybe some parents have spent years believing that if they just keep the sugar away, their beloved child will not get "diabetes," and the reality, that it can happen to anyone, is too frightening for them to consider.
A great many people in this world never question anything: They are told by the Television Screen and Radio and Newspaper (and now Internet) to do something, buy something, believe something, and they just do it.
Maybe being T1 makes us able to not be fooled as easily.
And finally, after all of those theories, I think the one that makes most people act poorly is fear. I think most people spend a lot of time being afraid and trying to protect themselves from some real or imagined threat.
People don't really tell me how to manage my diabetes, but it still bothers me when people say "I understand what you are going through," like my middle school band director, who has (mild) type 2. I agree with you, Crochet Nut, about people always thinking they know so much about diabetes because of believing the media. But really, there are so many things in the media THAT AREN'T TRUE!
Crochet Nut your very right.. and i think people need to stop beliveing the media.. its hardly ever true! and Katie i feel ya
