My daughter went into DKA when we first found out she had d...DKA is really upsetting to see,and know someone you love is going through it.What is it like to be the one actually going through it ?? If you have been through it,would you do everything possible to try and never have it happen again,if possible ?? Thanks :)
you feel drained of energy, nauseous, weak, and really tired, you just feel like just put me out of my misery

Adriana said it for me. And yes once having been through it I am doing everything possible to avoid it.
I was so bad towards the end that I don't remember anything but feeling at peace. Before that, it was a different story; my breathing was so labored it hurt terribly and my mouth would get so dry my tongue was as hard as a rock! I would never let it get that bad again, it would be asking for trouble
DKA put me in a diabetic coma. I got the flu and it made my body resistant to insulin. My sugars got into the 900's. It is the most awful feeling in the world. I don't really remember much before I went unconcious, but what I do remember was terrible.

I always wondered why the flu is so dangerous for us.....interesting....
My daughter's breathing was labored too. We were told it was her trying to breath out all the ketones or toxic stuff. Something like that.
for me, it feels like you have the flu you just can't get rid of... extreme nausea/vomiting, frequent urination, uncontrollable thirst, headache, very weak and exhausted. absolutely no motivation to move.
It is not just the flu, it's any serious infection that attacks you. The insulin receptors go to pot so the insulin needs rise significantly and with a fever, even more so. If I get ill, i usually start raising my basal until BGs a normalized before eating and bolusing.
I haven't had DKA since diagnosis but I remember it as always being thirsty and having to pee which in turn resulted in many sleepless nights. Hard to sleep when you're getting up every 15 minutes! I also remember my whole body broke out in a rash from my blood sugar levels being so high.
The only upside was that I lost a ton of weight quickly. Not that it was healthy, but it was effective
for me violent throwing up not to be gross but I was beyond sick, flu like everyone else said but i couldnt control it i remember going to the emergency room and i threw up on the floor walking in i know like i said gross lol but that was the main thing that made DKA different than regular sickness
