I tried stevia too a few months ago. My BG was fine, but I found it had a strange after taste. I also saw something on t.v. recently how they aren't yet sure if it's safe.
So, I've been switching between splenda and real sugar depending on my BG at the moment. Also, I'd hate to bother to bolus for a little packet of sugar and end up stacking my novalog.
I started using stevia a few months ago, i could def taste the difference and like splenda a little better but i really try and stay away from chemicals as much as possible so i stuck with it and now im used to it. I use it for tea and oatmeal etc but if im baking or anything like that i use plain old sugar :)
I prefer real sugar. If I don't want to bother with insulin or high blood sugars I just avoid sugar and find something else to eat. I don't really understand why people need to use replacements for sugar...
Because sugar has calories? And I'd also rather not have to take more insulin, which is expensive, makes me gain weight (both the sugar and the insulin), and can help lead to insulin resistance. I'll take the supposed "side effects" of an artificial sweetener any day if it means I don't have to take more insulin.
