its funny you mentioned this, the other day i took my humalog pen instead for lantus.. i took 10 unties of humalog and didnt realize it until i was 20 and shaking, my mom had me take 8 oz of OJ and a bottle of soda. she called the hospital and they didnt get back to her until the nextt day (at night) - apparently the doctors buzzer broke.
We have 2 pens for our son. One is orange for Novorapid and one is green for Levemir both with 300 units in them. I must say I am surpise to see that some of you are using syringes...is this because you need to get very precise doses?

We tried the pens for a while. The dosing was an issue because with the Humalog pen you can't give just .5 unit, which is what Brandan needs for most snacks and if I remember correctly the Levemir pen only does whole units. Plus, we were told to count to ten when injecting and Brandan ended up jerking his arm away and since the needle is so tiny it came out and scratched him.

I didn't like pens because every shot I gave myself bled out, as where syringes don't as often.
I did this once! I took ten units of Humalog instead of Humulin. (oops). I was 12, and I ate a ton of junk trying not to get low. a "real" (not reduced-sugar) hot fudge sundae, for example. Don't beat yourself up. It happens to the best of us!!!!
I'm not on Lantus anymore because i have a pump, but once when i was younger i also messed up with Lantus- I gave myself two doses of it in one morning because i had forgotten that i had already done it :/ And don't worry, you probably won't do it again- I learned my lesson the first time!
For at least a couple of months after my daughter's doctor prescribed pens for both her insulins, she preferred the syringes. So we used the pen to draw from, but she used a syringe anytime she drew her own insulin. Just in the last couple of weeks she's finally gotten comfortable using the pens herself. Thankfully they are different colors, and we keep them in different places; Sarah keeps her novalog in a "purse" in which she carries all of her supplies, and the lantus is kept in a basket in the kitchen.
haha yes, I have to say that I have done this. When I was on NPH and mixed that with my Humalog, I would mix up the amounts so much. Or like what happened to you guys, I took NPH instead of Humalog. We panicked the first couple of times but after a while (seeing as this happened so many times haha) we figured out that we don't really have to panic and were able to fix it. Although, we panicked a little more when I took Humalog instead of NPH... heh.. but we figured that one out too. Don't worry, this happens to almost every T1 at some point while they are on shots/pens. (some more than others haha)
