My three-year old daughter was recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. I have noticed that it isnt easy to eat at restuarants without doing a lot of research and planning the night before. Most restuartants only have theirs carb information online. I am afraid when I go on vacation which I will not know where we will be eating that I will have problems knowing how much carbs she has eaten. Any advice on this?
If you have a smart phone of any type, you can usually access online restaurant information on the go.
If not, my registered dietician recommended a book called "The Calorie King" by Alan Borushek to me. It has a lot of the fast food type restaurants in it. I've been meaning to buy it, but do not own it, so I can't personally endorse it, though flipping through her copy it seemed like a good book. It listed calories and carbohydrates.
My 19 year old son was diagnosed with T1 2 years ago. You can get a Calorie King book at the book store that has the nutritional values of foods for a lot of restaurants, fast food, bakery items, etc. listed. There are also apps available for your phone.
