Quick-Set Paradigm infusion set issues

Hello,

My daughter is 10 and she has had issues recently with the infusion set not "clicking" in place on the site? As an example, we changed her pump last night and she woke up this morning and was not connected. We tried to connect and it wouldn't. This is not the first time. We have issues sometimes when she disconnects for a shower and then cannot reconnect. It is getting very frustrating for her and us as her parents. Anybody else having this type of issue? Thank you and God Bless...

Hi John,

I myself use the Quick-set infusion sets, but  I have not had the problem you described.  All I can offer is some advice.

When reconnecting, do not squeeze the tabs (the ones you need to squeeze to disconnect the set).  You'll notice this allows the tubing side of the set to spin more freely on the cannula piece.  Try connecting it by grasping only the tubing. (like in the pic I've attached from the minimed site)

Doing it this way you can actually hear the set 'click' together and you can verify its connection by trying to rotate it off, again by only grasping the tubing.

 Like this ....

Let us know if this helps.  There could be a defect in your batch of infusion sets???

-- Jason.

We have had recent problems with a couple of tubing sets cracking at the point where the tubing comes out of the resevoir.  This has happened on day 2 after changing the sets.   Medtronic is aware and have replaced the sets we had problems with and we have sent one of the tubing sets back to them for review...

Hi John, my son is 4 years old and we've been on Medtronic's Veo pump for just about a month.  We have had the same troubles as you a couple of times surrounding bath time and trying to reconnect.  I was going to call Medtronic today to see what they suggest.  I'll let you know what they have to say.  Janet

Hi again John, I saw the post from Jason so checked my instruction guide again because we had been squeezing the sides trying to get the infusion tubing reconnected.  Since then I have followed his instructions and it's gone on fine so I didn't call Medtronic as of yet.  We'll see if that solves the problem or if it happens again.  Hope that you are having better success with it too.  Janet

Thanks to everyone who responded. Here's the deal...

There is a rotating disc inside of the infusion set....Somehow she is getting that disc to move, after we take her pump off.  I think she is hitting it with a towel and/or washrag. Minimed has asked us to send them several samples and we have obliged. So, I came up with a solution that has worked to keep her from hitting it. When she takes a shower, I put the little plastic cap on the site. She can't hit it. She can't make it turn. It's worked well so far.

I had a couple of folks advise me to use a set of tweezers and/or clip to move the disc back into place. While I was able to move it and she was able to get her set snapped back into place, her BG's went through the roof. My advise? DO NOT TRY THIS!

Thanks to all who responded. Have a great Sunday!

John

John- Thanks for geting the answer to this.  I have had this happen to me a few times and I have always been really confused.  As you described, it has happened to me also after taking a shower. I was not even aware that the set could rotate.  I had it happen after working out once as well.  I have back up sets so I just changed it and didn't really think much of it.  Thanks for the information.
