I've been on the pump for about 7 years and for almost the past year have been seriously considering going back on shots. I've been extremely unhappy on it lately. If anyone has any advice or stories it would be greatly appreciated.
I have, at times, temporarily gone back to shots. I have found that, after pumping for so long, it can sometimes to difficult to go back to shots. I know that I am used to having the ability using multiple basal rates that change throughout the day, and I don't have that luxury on shots. It's nice to give my sites a break every once in a while, but I do prefer the pump.
a number of people on the pump take "breaks" for a few months, even a few years. it's totally your choice. If you aren't happy with the pump, there's no reason you can't go back to shots then start your pump again down the road.
I agree with Batts. There is no harm in taking time off from the pump. Just as with any other changes, just make sure to talk to your Endo about the break. Just so you can sort out what you need to be doing with fast acting and lantus or whatever you might be using. After 7 years what you were once using, is probably not the same. Good luck in whatever you choose to do.
I switch back to shots for about a week or so probably twice a year. I get really sick of having this damn pump stuck to me 24/7. After a few days on shots, I always come running back to the pump. If you are getting sick of the pump, it is definitely a good idea to take a break.
Thank you everyone for your advice! it was really helpful
