Problems with Tandem Infusion sets

Glad they worked out for you. I tried tru-steel but they never felt comfortable & I generally can get use to things like that.

Bib, it is not so much an issue of the company that distributes infusion sets manufactures by Unomedical, but more probably the duration of time, and number of flesh intrusions, by needle or infusion-set, that the user has endured. Over a period of time using three MiniMed pumps [MiniMed is the name Medtronic calls all the pumps it distributes, including the yet to be approved 780G], I migrated through cannula lengths and angle of insertion ranging from 6 to 17 mm. When I finally saw the light and moved to Tandem t-Slim x2 a couple of years ago, I knew exactly which infusion set, cannula would work on each location of my body. As a result, I have not experienced any issue with infusion sets distributed/marketed by Tandem.

To follow up on what @Dennis said, on the site I have noticed many users switching from Medtronic to Tandem fur various reasons. I suspect scar tissue may be the issue with the sets themselves. Iā€™ve been pumping for around 30 years, staying with Minimed, and it was recommended a few years in that changing the style of the set might help prevent or delay scar tissue. I used the 90 degree sets for with both pumps - maybe even decades (having forgotten that advice) and switched to 30 degree sets fairly recently. Iā€™m right handed and always always always insert from right to left, but Iā€™m now working on going from left to right. Itā€™s awkward but Iā€™m managing! I never knew if there was any scientific basis but it seemed to make logical sense.
Before I forget, donā€™t apologize for asking questions - add my parents taught me when I was young, you donā€™t learn if you donā€™t ask, and someone else may be wondering the same thing. Thereā€™s lots of info on the forum that you will find helpful but no need to dig through it all your first time in.
I took injections for 30+ years before getting my first pump. Most of those were 1 a day - I didnā€™t start on MDI until after college (thatā€™s when my doctor first introduced me to it and I think the concept was fairly new at the time - yes, Iā€™m ancientšŸ˜Š). I havenā€™t had much iof a ā€œtissue issueā€ even after all this time so hopefully it wonā€™t be a big concern for you for a while.
Of youā€™ve always used the same sets, if you do switch ask your Dexcom rep for samples of the various ones, and even check out the different cannula lengths. That of course is typically recommended based on how lean a person is but you could still try something different.
Welcome, and enjoy the forum - we look forward to hearing your contributions.

Doris have you read or heard that minimed is going to come out with a 10 day infusion set. I did a what do you think form they emailed me. 10 days sounds good as long they work (no leaks and what not) less site changes. Much scar tissue on gut bad insulin absorption. We will see.

I hadnā€™t heard that - exciting news! Theyā€™ve done it with CGM sensors so infusion sets must be catching up. Just be sure you monitor how long they work for you. When I first started pumping I kept mine in for 7 days, which I think was standard at the time (itā€™s been a whilešŸ˜Š). At some point I was told to change every 3 days instead, to help prevent buildup of scar tissue. I thought twice as many changes would cause it to build up faster - on the other hand leaving a set in for a long time could do the same, so it balanced out (according to my wacky logic). I still change every 3 days now.

I wonder if there is some sort of protective coating that provides protectionšŸ¤”. Interesting! I use Tandem but will keep my ears open. Thank you.

Hey there, Iā€™m having similar issues. Day or two after inserting Autosoft XC, it starts getting itchy, BGs start to rise, and when I pull it off, itā€™s a big red welt. I canā€™t tell if itā€™s the pump or the infusion set or possibly both, but when I pull it off and try a bolus when disconnected, hardly any insulin comes out. Sometimes none.

Tandem has been good about working with me and Iā€™m trying other infusion sets, but somethingā€™s going on with the Autosoft. Not sure if itā€™s a different material or adhesive or something else. Iā€™ll let you know how the other infusion sets work.

Does it look like the set for ā€œaccordionedā€ or bent? You would likely see high readings right away but maybe movement knocks it off kilter. Unlikely but you never know. One thing Iā€™ve found with the XC and the 90 is in always a little uncertain that it stayed positioned correctly once I removed the needle. I use that one occasionally but am more found with and confident about the Autosoft 30. It works very well for me so long as I insert it at its intended angle (for some bizarre reason for a while I angled up I tiny bit and got lots of highs). All the best in finding the one that works best for you. Your rep may have samples you can try.
