Periods and Ketones

I am on my period and I need to check my ketones. I am Type One Diabetic. Every time I check for ketones, the pad on the stick is covered with blood and I can not read whether I have ketones or not. What do I do?
(I am 13)

Not to be gross, but wipe with a wet cloth before you pee in order to use the dip stick. Or try catching the urine in a cup and dip the Ketostick in the cup rather than trying to test mid-stream.

Do you need to test for ketones all the time? Or do you find you are running high glucose levels when you have your period?

You may find that tampons help prevent this issue, too.

You can talk to your doctor about getting a blood meter that measures keytones. My daughters doctor thinks it more accurate.
