Anyone got any suggestions? I also have gastrparesis and cannot eat high fiber foods(most vegetables)
Not sure with the gastroparesis. But low carb will cause weight loss. In fact I’m underweight and been trying for a year to gain. But Ive been unable to gain and keep it on consistently and it’s because I rarely eat grains, fruit, legumes, and do not eat sugars or starch vegetables or rice or pasta of any kind.
you must have low A1c’s?
Have you looked into Symlin? It’s a synthetic form of amylin, and many Type 1’s don’t make that anymore, either. It’s not a critical hormone, but it’s really helpful because it makes you feel really full. It’s an injector pen and once you take it, you feel full like 2 minutes later. Really helps you control portions - so THIS is what normal people feel like after they eat! I lost about 15 lbs. on it and have maintained my weight. Ask your endo.
I tried it many years ago - it did not seem to help me and I did not want to take more shots … so i dropped it.
I have been eating a low carb diet and my BG levels are about the same before and after meals with sometimes no bolus.
@Scott, com oared to what I hear and read from others, actually it seems I have fewer lows. Never below 40. And when I hit 60s I correct with glucose tabs. My A1c is 5.4 as of about a month ago, so yes, low.
I eat lots of carbs. So me saying “low carb” is a mis-statement. It is more restricted carbs, as in, types of carbs/food. I eat tons of non starch vegetables, all of course carb-y. 1c or 1/2c serving? No such thing, to me, with those carbs… I also eat carbs in protein/meat/eggs/lots and lots of tree nuts. It is “the other” carb foods that are restricted for me.
Scott should be “compared” to what I hear…
