Meet our babygirl!

Alizah Rachel Holloway was born at 7:58 AM October 18, 2011. 37 weeks gestation and she was 21 inches long and 8 lbs 9.9 ounces!

RachelEmily,

I just wanted to say congratulations.  I have been following your posts along with my own pregnancy since January.  It has been an amazing journey to say the least.  i was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was 13 months old.  (in 1976)  At that time, my mom was told that I probably would not live to be an adult.  Then technology made that happen.  I was then told that I would never have children.  They even told me that I could have my tubes tied when I was 18 if I wanted.  Now I have a wonderful daughter as well.  I welcomed Lillianna Patrica into this world on September 27.  She was 6 weeks early, but very healthy at 6lbs 7 ozs and 18 inches long.  When I figure out how to post my pictures, i will post a couple.

Thank you for sharing your story as we went.  You made many days easier knowing that I was not alone :)

Just precious!!! Congrats! Hope everything went well for you and the babe.

Sooooo adorable...how cute and juicy!!! vaginal or c section?

She's absolutely gorgeous!  Congrats!!!

Oh My God Kimmy! You made me cry! It was like reading my own history.

I was also diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was 13 months old back in 1979! My doctors told the same story  and somehow I believed it until I was 21 years old... then I realized I have a life ahead me and a lot of dreams. I have always been scared about having a baby for the same reasons most diabetics fear about, but I feel know its my time to give it a try. All of you girls really inspire me!

Rachel Congrats! God bless you both! What a precious girl!

Thanks everyone! I had a vaginal delivery. I had an episiotomy and 2nd degree tears, but surprisingly the recovery was not very bad. Being a diabetic should not be a reason to not have children. There were times in my pregnancy when things were difficult, but in the end it was all worth it and I would do it all over again!! This is our first child and depending on the situation 4 or 5 yrs from now we may be having another. I absolutely love being a mom!

Yay!!! Congrats Mama!

Ohhhhhh good job Rachel!!! such good news that not all diabetics end up in csection!  Did you get an epidural?  especially with being induced I heard that it is much worse to go natural...

I did get an epidural but the nurses actually ended up cutting my meds off because they said I was pushing better without it. So I didn't feel the first several hours of my labor, but right there at the end when I was pushing I felt it all. I personally thought the epidural was very easy and didn't hurt at all. I was so nervous about getting it because I've heard all these scary stories, but honestly I thought the IV was worse. LOL

Rachel, thank you.  I have heard horror stories of epidurals too so I have been scared of them but I have heard that pitocin makes it unbearable so I am glad that you had a good experience...maybe I'll give it a try if things get too bad.  Thanks.
