Looking for study participants - teens can win an ipod Touch

Hello Parents,

I am currently doing my PhD Dissertation at the University of New Brunswick on Global Self-Worth in Adolescents with Chronic Illness, which includes diabetes. I am having a difficult time recruiting youth in grades 9-12 to complete my online study, despite several notes from parents agreeing that this type of research is necessary. If you have a teenager with diabetes, please encourage him or her to check out my survey (the first page is an info and consent form for parents).

Thanks much! Here are more details:

Researchers at the University of New Brunswick are looking for youth to participate in a study about self-esteem in adolescents with chronic illness. Youth in grades 9-12 who have been diagnosed with asthma, arthritis or diabetes are eligible to participate! Participants will have a chance to win 1 of 10 $20 VISA Gift Cards, plus a chance to win the Grand Prize of an 8GB ipod Touch! Participation involves completing an anonymous, online survey that takes approximately 20-40 minutes. Questions are related to youth’s experience with their illness, self-esteem, depression, anxiety, autonomy, and perceptions of parent and peer relationships. Parents are required to consent to participation.

Hey. I am a teen, and I'd be glad to help. But...I'm technically not in 9th grade. I'm in eighth. But I'm taking several high school classes, and I'm old enough to be in the grade ahead of me. As a kindergardener, I jussed missed the birthday cutoff, so I'm older than most kids in my grade. Anyway, will I still be able to participate? Or, I suppose an alternate, will the study run into August, when I will be a ninth grader?

Hi Maria,

Thanks so much for your interest! Yes, please feel free to complete the study even though you are in grade 8. And feel free to pass it on to anyone else you know who might be willing to participate as well!

Marcie
