You will get hard lumps under the skin if you inject cold insulin.
The pen tips are so much easier than syringes. They are like 3/16'' in length compared to a longer syringe. There are different lengths in the needle depending on the thickness of your skin. I use a shorter needle and it doesnt hurt that much.
I have been on Lantus since I was diagnosed in 2001...
So I just took my Lantus and tried to pay attention to whether or not it stings.... It did not! Sometimes it does though, but it is nothing worse than a bug bite... No big deal. I take 2 doses as well. I take 10-12 Units at 10:30pm and 6 Units at 10:30am.
I am now switching to the Lantus Solo Star pen because it doesnt have to be kept in the refridge.
I've never heard of the Lantus Solo Star Pen, but regarding Lantus, my understanding is that the vial currently in use need not be refrigerated. Although, once a vial is opened, it should be used within 30 days or discarded.
I've noticed several comments about Lantus shots "hurting". I'm curious - does it hurt differently than another kind of insulin using the same injection method? Are these comments about Lantus being used via pen? via syringe? either one?
I've been on Lantus for several years now, always injecting via syringe, and haven't noticed any kind of discomfort.
Also - I'm curious about dosages. Lantus was supposed to be 24-hr long lasting insulin, meant to be taken at bed time. Or so it was when I first when on it (which was whenever it became available in the US.) I was having bad night time lows, so my doc switched me to morning, but it didn't seem to last the right lenght of time. I now take an a.m. dose (34) and a bedtime dose (13). Anyone else doing a 2-dosage method?

I was also having severe lows during the night when taking Lantus at bedtime and switched to mornings but it didn't work. So I am now taking a split dose 22 in the morning and 10 at dinner. I've been told that Lantus is not suppose to peak but I do experience peaks with it.

I'm the same. I take 20 when i wake up and 10 at bedtime. my endo tried to give me a morning shot only, but it peaked for me too. he said in his experience, only 10% of the diabetics he has/does deal with have been able to only take one dose of lantus a day without it peaking.
as for the question. i've never noticed it "hurting" unless i just took it out of the fridge, but even then i barely notice it...so i donno if i'd say it "hurt"..more like i was aware of it going into my body haha
