My daughter was just approved for a minimed CGM but I am worried that it will be too much for her. I am looking for anyone who has a child on a CGM and can tell me their experience.
I am 13 years old, and a few months ago I got approved for one too. At first I was kind of scared that it would hurt with the inserter. But if you try the numbing cream it is does not hurt at all. We learned that if you do use the cream you have to wipe it of with a tissue then with an alcohol wipe then with the IV prep. The doctor told me I have to do all of those steps to make sure all the cream is off so it won't interfere with the sensor. So far I really like the sensor it is the greatest thing that ever happened to me. It can also be annoying sometimes too. If your BG is too high or too low in the night it will wake you up 2-3 times. You also have to remember to only calibrate 2-4 times a day. If your meter talks to the pump you have to turn the communication off. Beacuse if you don't every time you check it will calibrate and the sensor readings won't be accurate. I think you will really like the CGM it is really nice to look and see where your BG is going so you can take charge of it before it is out of range. If you have any more questions about it you can just ask me.
Hi
I have an almost 13 year old who has one it for the past 3 years or so. He wears it most weeks for as many days as it will last. Hubby & I do most of the management, but he has instructions on what to do if it alarms high or low when he is not with use and 1 arrow vs. 2 arrows. I love it. He of course did not want it, but I bribbed him with Jamba juice (something I did not let him have before the sensor) and now he is fine with wearing it.
