In Your Opinion

whats the worst part about having diabetes??

for me it wasn't the shots , or now constantly being connected to something, its the being thirsty all the time and never being able to eat the things i want . watching every little thing. the future scares me the most being diabetic. going to the dr's multiple times a month stinks too

My new diabetic googles(kind of like beer googlesLOL)

The people who don't know what they are talking about when they talk about my diabetes.

I know we all hate it. But I actually wouldn't mind being strapped to something 24/7 or the needle part. I just wish I didn't have to justify why I need food at a certain point in time or that I am skinny and yes I have diabetes.

the worst part about being diabetic is that you can't be a normal teeen anymore. you cant just go out any more. you can't just go eat ice cream with your friends any more. and at sleep overs and going over friend's houses all there paarents are super protective and freak out if you eat something. and all of your friends don't treat you the same...

The worst part for me is knowing that I will never get a break. I can never let my guard down and relax. I always have to be alert to my illness, even as I sleep.

Liz,

the worst thing for me is probably the questions people ask and dealing with my numbers being like a rollercoaster. And being thirsty all the time should have stopped.... you might be dehydrated...and you can eat what u want you just have to take the correct amount of insulin for the food you are eating.

Definitely has to be the maikng sure i have insulin and needles with me when i go places.

Jeff thats another good one thats hard for me too. i always somehow tend to forget when im half way to a place :(

I couldnt tell ya how many times im like a mile away from my house and realize i forgot that stuff, and of course i hav e to make a U turn and make everyone mad cause i prob made a illegal U turn

haha ya jeff that happens to me tooo. but i cant drive till feb so i have to tell my mom and make her mad along with everyone else haha.. and i just say at least we r fashionably late hahaha

Ha. then ya have the big 250 pound body builder in has smart car or prius or something honking his little horn while your turning around...its like sorry dude but you shouldnt drive a car that you could probably lift with one hand...

hahaha ya. im kinda scared to drive.. like im prolly gonna make someone made and they'll like idk what prolly smash me and my car for forgeting a blinker haha

I'm terrified to drive too, even though I could go get my permit any day now...But I also really don't want to deal with being low and driving.  That would be so terrifying.

The worst part for me is probably always remembering to bolus and having to suffer the consequences of eating something that messes with your blood sugar.  And being randomly high or low and having huge horrible feeling swings.  Also, always having to be attached to a pump (although I would never trade Emmanuel for shots).

katie, i agree. I have my permit and before i drive i check my blood sugar to see where its at :)

More unexperieced drivers out on the open road...uh oh..haha sike, ive had my license for less then a year anyways

another really annoying thing would have to be getting all your supplies through airport security. and EVERYONE thinks you pump is a bomb and your a suicide bomber.....

I think the only things that bother me are the people who are absoluetly clueless about diabetes and bcum the "food police" and that most of the time, ur alone. I am the only diabetic in my skewl and it maxe me feel very leftout.... luckily, theres juvenatiom

blood testing. hands down it's the part i hate the most.

Since i got it as a child in the 80's it was the other kids and parents being afraid that i could give "diabetes" to them like it was the flu or HIV or something. So I always felt socially isolated becuase of my health problems growing up. The next worst thing was the going into insulin shock all the time when i was a kid.  Nothing like waking up in the middle of the night feeling like you were cocooned in your own body. You would be unable to move, talk or cry for help becuase your body would be in shock from your bloodsugars being so low.  Those two things were in my opinion the two worst aspects of having diabetes thus far. I can list at least three to five more ways that diabetes will screw with an ordinary person's life once they have it but i am sure most of you are aware of those aspects. Diet, work, relationships, physical well being and spiritual aspects of our lives all get put through the wood chipper when it comes to dealing with diabetes and trying to live our lives at the same time.  I think it makes us tougher individuals in the long run compared to most.

I dislike hypoglycemia-phobia.  I don't like to be scared of low blood sugars, especially before I go to bed.
