If you could change one thing about your pump

I'm not all for the integrated mp3 or video player stuff....

For me, I want my pump to be dedicated to providing insulin.  Not only do I not want other things on there because they will drain the battery quicker, but they also could potentially have software bugs, causing the pump to lock up.

Awesome news from across the pond in the UK. They have the new Paradigm VEO. It has this feature! With the sensor under skin it WILL shut off if you go too low! I can't wait till we see it here!

Check it out and start asking for it here.  It looks promising. http://www.medtronic.co.uk/your-health/diabetes/device/insulin-pumps/paradigm-veo-pump/index.htm

I don't think I would like this.  If I get too low I'll just eat something.

Someone mentioned a wireless remote for the paradigm...the last time I got a Minimed pump a few years back it came with one.  Is that a change in policy?  It looked like the keyless entry button for your car.

I totally agree with the mp3/wireless ideas.  If my pump could send a history wirelessly, automatically to Excel or some other program, that would be great.  If my glucometer could do the same, and perhaps automatically send the data to my doctor, I would be ever so thankful.  One thing I have always wanted was for my pump to set the time by itself.  That way I don't have to worry about daylight savings time and my settings for insulin.

Some people have mentioned better interfaces...could you elaborate? I have a little experience with software interfaces so I'm always interested in those kinds of comments.

Minimed already has this set up.  See here

I upload my data before my doctors appontment, and when I arrive, they have all my reports printed off, ready to analyze.

If the CareLink software worked in Firefox on a Mac, my quarterly aggravation would decrease immensely.

I also use Firefox, but you can use the "IE Tab" plug in, and it works great.

Also, you must have access to a Windows PC somwhere...  You only have to do the upload every 3 or 4 weeks, and that's the only time that you actually need a Windows PC.

I'm sure you could set at what low you want your pump to turn off. This could really be a lifesaver for people who are hypo-unaware, or for children, or for mistakes that we all make.

Of course having the ability to eat something it awesome, but I'd certainly want the sucrity that this offeres. Specially if I passed out unexpectedly and it was a while till soneone noticed, I don't want my pump to keep delivering insulin, that is very deadly.

Hi Brady-

MiniMed sells a remote for their 5 and 7 Series for $149.99. I don't use it nor know anyone who ever has but they do sell one.

Here's the link, not sure the link will work, you might have to be signed in to look at their products?

Cool, but I have no idea how that remote works.  It looks like it only has 3 buttons, S, B, and ACT. (se below)

Is there no display, so you can see how many carbs your entering etc... ?

You got me, no clue how it works! If I had to guess, "Suspend" "Bolus" and "Activate" it looks like it just has your essentials?

I thought of something else today when I was at work. I dont have a cgm yet and I was testing today and thought that it would be awesome if there was just a little port for test strips on the pump so it could also be a glucose monitor. I mean my monitor can send the info to my pump but it would be great if it was just one thing.

heyy brady first off they do have a remote for the minimed versions it allows u to give boluses using the easy bolus but thats it and u can suspend

but i would like water proof im quite the klutz and i have fallen in pools dropped it in the toilet all that fun stuff

a lot of you guys want your minimed pumps to be waterproof. what you need to realize is that it is as much as the others. minimed says its only splash resistant because then they save money from not replacing broken wet pumps. the other pump companies are wasting money when they replace pump that leaked. the pumps arrive waterproof. but after you wear it and it gets banged around a bit, the case can get damaged and its no longer waterproof. so if your pump is "waterproof", be aware that all it means is that your pump companie will replace it if it does leak, because it can

Ooh, definately...Waterproof

Interchangeable Skins

Maybe slimmer, and a little longer, sort of like the new slimline cell phones, that way the reservoir would still hold the same amount of insulin but the pump itself would be thinner

Minimed needs to make a remote for pump control... like the Ping

I love everything about my Ping except the remote! Why would you make a backlight on the pump and not on the remote!? Especially when your remote is also your meter. I'm sorry but it's really hard to check at 3 am when you can't see anything!!!! I'm sure it wouldn't have been such a big deal just to put a backlight on it!!!!

Do you have any idea how this remote works?  How do you enter the amount of carbs your eating? I only see 3 buttons, and no screen....  See my earlier post for a picture.

Brady -  The remote works with the easy bolus option.  You can adjust that under your utilities option.  I have mine set to 1 unit just because it's easy but you can set it for .5, 1.5, 2.0 - whatever you want it to.   With the remote - you hold down the blue ACT button until you hear the pump beep (or vibrate if you have it on that selection), then you can press the B button to add to the bolus you want to give.  For example if mine is 1.0 and I want to give 5 units, you press the B  five times for 5 units.  Then press ACT again.  The pump will beep or vibrate 5 times to confirm how much you are giving.  After the confirmation is finished, press the ACT button one more time to activate the bolus.   The S button is for suspend - same deal.  Hit the ACT button until the pump beeps or vibrates, press S to suspend, then ACT to confirm it.

I rarely use it because you can't use the bolus wiz with it.  You have to ballpark your carbs/ratio with it.  It's mostly useful for women who will have it under a dress or something like that and want the pump hidden.  Hope that's what ur looking for.

Brady- I looked it to it a little last night, I believe all you can do with the remote is "easy bolus". You would have to calculate your CHOs in your head like the olden days! :) It looks like you can only bolus whole amonts too.

Tara - not sure which pump you have but if it's the 722 you don't have to do whole amounts.  If you go to easy bolus under the bolus option, you can program the easy bolus in .1 increments.  It might be different with others.

I wish I could get a pump!!!
