Since I found this site, I have learned I am not the only one with concerns about insulin and weight loss. I have struggled with my weight since I was 15, when I was put on fast acting insulin. I've tried everything: loads of diets, Weight Watchers, tracking calories, increased exercise. I've even seen the effects of diabulimia (though I didn't know that was what was happening). I know that trying to lose weight with type 1 diabetes can be a very frustrating thing, but I know it can be done. That is why I'd like to propose that we create an online support group through this website. I'd like to think of it as a food diary from which we can learn, and in which we can find and give support. I know that having the support of people who REALLY know what it means to attempt weight loss on insulin would be awesome. And since I've read about others doing it, I'd like to see just how far this could go.
Here's what I think we'd need to report on, probably daily at best, along with my current info:
Weight/Height: 5'8"/170
Food (what you ate for each meal and snack): Egg white omlet with 1/4 c. green bell pepper, 1/2 c. tuna salad with LF mayo, 6 almonds, 1/2 c. salad with dressing, 2 BBQ short ribs with sauce, 1 roll, Jello dessert, 1 beer.
Exercise (what type, duration, etc.): 1.5 mile walk at beach, about to go for 2 mile walk at park (About 2 hours total)
Insulin (type and number of units): Humalog. As of now, 36 units.
Total Daily Basal: 25. Bolus: 11
Notes: Had to take a couple of correction boluses. Stayed low carb up until dinner. Major success in that I went to the movies this morning and DID NOT HAVE POPCORN!!! As tomorrow is the 4th of July, it will be tough to keep insulin at goal of 32 units, but I will try.
Concerns: I am wondering if anyone would be up to do this with me. I would like to lose about 15-20 lbs. If you'd like to, too, please take part!
