Health Care Bill Passed!

Now what??

we celebrate :o)

we're screwed

my dad was screaming like he was watching a football game ;)

Everyone raise your glass... and then bolus for whatever you're drinking...

Yeah, I'm celebrating so much!  We'll see what happens.

Now we diabetics stop being discriminated against, that's what.

janna, you should read the bill. you might just change your mind!

Step one, time to celebrate a big step to a better life for all of us. I'm dancing!!

haha now everyone who actually makes money not only can pay for everyone else's housing, food, and children....but also their healthcare....Socialism here we come!! George Washington we need you now.

Yeah, I WISH that it meant that everyone would just be covered.  But actually, everyone still has to purchase their own health insurance.  So, Austin, you're just simply wrong.

I am really unclear as to how this will help the majority of middle/working class Americans.  Especially for those of us dealing with chronic medical needs.  In our household not only the costs of Type 1 but also Celiac.  Fine.  Enlighten me hoe this will help my son when he becomes a man and how we, right now just may end up living on the streets. I feel that every bit of control and hope is being ripped away from my family.  I should have remained a Republican.  Stupid me for having so much faith in a politician.

Goodness people, go read the bill.  You can no longer be denied coverage for pre-existing conditions... that's HUGE, especially for diabetics.  Children can remain on their parents insurance until age 26, now.  Most employers will now be required to offer you healthcare, and the costs of that healthcare will be capped, so insurance companies stop the price hikes.  And those considered "uninsurable" will now have an option to purchase their own healthcare.

Watching Fox news does not count as "research".  Go do your due diligence.

I tried to find the bill using google, but so many things popped up that I don't know where to start. Does anybody have a link to the bill that was actually passed?

^ haha this exactly.

This is huge for me as I was just diagnosed late last month at 21 and this September on my 22nd birthday I was about to be forced off my parent's insurance. Matters would have been even worse since I live in Ohio and Ohio doesn't consider diabetes a disability nor does it have any law forcing insurance companies to cover us.

So I'm pretty happy I don't have to use student loans to purchase an individual plan now, really, really happy.

Now I have until I'm 26!

Yup I agree 100% .. it sucks

Kyle, you might want to check things out more closely.  Some of the legislation will not go into effect until 2014. I'm not sure if the stay on your parents plan till your 26 falls into that category or not.

When I was pushed off my parents plan when I turned 22, we purchased Cobra for a few months till I was eligible for my employer's plan.  That would still be an option for you.

After some more reading and research I think over all it is a good thing. Its not perfect nor will anything ever be but its a vast improvement  over what we have right now. Something has to change and it is or will by 2014-2018. Everything about fines and such seems fair to me. Someone paying out the back end for crappy coverage because so many people do not have insurance going to ERs driving up the cost even further because they either cant (guilty of this even with insurance because it cost to much monthly and doesnt cover all I need it too) or wont pay their bills.  Anyhow I dont see the fines for not having it any different than not being able to register your car if you dont have insurance on it. Its in place to protect everyone and it will.

Here are a couple of sites I was reading on this morning.
