sorry the other one i replied with is the wrong one

I had a nice long response written and then my computer froze up and I had to restart, so I'll try to paraphrase what I had...

This song might be a little bit cliché, but "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey. I also found that a lot of you have these very inspiring and happy songs. When I get upset either due to diabetes (either glucose related or mad that I have it) I can't listen to "happy" music. I prefer more mellow/sad sounding songs, or even angry songs rather than listening to something uplifting. I'll list a couple that I listen to...won't take up your screens with the lyrics, but you can always YouTube the song or just pirate it from somewhere.

Ozzy Osbourne - Here for You
Blue October - Calling You
Muse - Endlessly
Slipknot - Duality

So yeah...different than everyone else's responses, but everyone copes differently.

"Sickman" by Alice In Chains. (Yeah, I know, it's a bit dark but sooo beautiful :)

What the hell am i?
Thousand eyes, a fly
Lucky then Id be
In one day deceased

Sickman, sickman, sickman

I can feel the wheel, but I cant steer
When my thoughts become my biggest fear

Ah, whats the difference, Ill die
In this sick world of mine

What the hell am i?
Leper from inside
Inside wall of peace
Dirty and diseased

Sickman, sickman, sickman, sickman

I can see the end is getting near
I wont rest until my head is clear

Ah, whats the difference, Ill die
In this sick world of mine

Can you see the end?
Choke on me my friend
Must to drown these thoughts
Purity over rot

What the hell am i?
Worn eroded pride
Saddened 10 miles wide
Im gonna let it slide

Sickman, sickman, sickman, sickman

I can feel the wheel, but I cant steer
When my thoughts become my biggest fear
Ah, whats the difference, Ill die
In this sick world of mine
Ahh, etc., etc.

Ok, so this one isn't serious/thought-provoking at all but this actually happened to me just a couple of days ago.  I was in the car with a friend (not driving, thank goodness) and 'Low' by Flo Rida came on the radio.  For some reason I just kept laughing at it.  Which was odd because I've probably heard that song about 453264258940378 times in the last year and I've never found it gut-busting funny before.  Then it hit me:  Oh my gosh, I'm low while I'm listening to 'Low.'  So of course I tested and lo and behold, 49 mg/dL.  Oh irony.  I wish the radio could always tell me what my blood sugar was.  There's way less blood involved that way.  Haha.

This is a great story.  I've only heard the FloRida song a couple of times.  But the drum & bugle corps I'm in (Sounders FC Sound Wave) plays this song at every game/parade etc.  It's one of our best songs.  When we first got the music and I saw the tittle "Low", you know what I thought about!

I thought about this post the other day when I saw that Eminem is coming out with a new album called "The High Side of Low".  What is that?  70 or 75 or something?

I don't particualarly like the song, but "It's Life" by Ashley Tisdale makes me think about fitting in with diabetes.

Heres the lyrics to the chorus:

Sometimes it's hard
No matter who you are
It's life, it's life
And I'm just trying to get it right
Sometimes I feel
Like this whole thing isn't real
But it's life, it's life
And I'm just trying to get it
Trying to get it right

Anyone else see how that fits?

There is actually a song on Itunes called "Not by Choice" by George Simmons. Which is about being diabetic. It's a good song. Should check it out.

This is an easy one for me.

James Taylor's Secret 'O Life

James Taylor Secret 'O Life YouTube

The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time
Any fool can do it
There aint nothing to it
Nobody knows

how we got to
The top of the hill
But since were on our way down
We might as well enjoy the ride

The secret of love is in opening up your heart
Its okay to feel afraid
But dont let that stand in your way
cause anyone knows that love is the only road
And since were only here for a while
Might as well show some style
Give us a smile

Isnt it a lovely ride
Sliding down
Gliding down
Try not to try too hard
Its just a lovely ride

Now the thing about time is that time
Isnt really real
Its just your point of view
How does it feel for you
Einstein said he could never understand it all
Planets spinning through space
The smile upon your face
Welcome to the human race

Some kind of lovely ride
Ill be sliding down
Ill be gliding down
Try not to try too hard
Its just a lovely ride

Isnt it a lovely ride
Sliding down
Gliding down
Try not to try too hard
Its just a lovely ride

Now the secret of life is enjoying the passage of time

I've seen this thread for a while and have been getting good new songs so thanks for that.  Needless to say, my wife had seen it too and we were just driving in the car and a song came on the radio and she says "Hey, honey, this is your love song to insulin".  After we got past the first stanza (SP?) I saw her point and had to laugh....

My Life Would Suck Without You lyrics - Kelly Clarkson
Guess this means you're sorry
You're standing at my door
Guess this means you take back
All you said before
Like how much you wanted
Anyone but me
Said you'd never come back
But here you are again

'Cause we belong together now, yeah
Forever united here somehow, yeah
You got a piece of me
And honestly,
My life (my life) would suck (would suck) without you

Maybe I was stupid for telling you goodbye
Maybe I was wrong for tryin' to pick a fight
I know that I've got issues
But you're pretty messed up too
Either way, I found out I'm nothing without you

'Cause we belong together now, yeah
Forever united here somehow, yeah
You got a piece of me
And honestly,
My life (my life) would suck (would suck) without you

Being with you
Is so disfunctional
I really shouldn't miss you
But I can’t let you go
Oh yeah

'Cause we belong together now, yeah
Forever united here somehow, yeah
You got a piece of me
And honestly,
My life (my life) would suck (would suck) without you

'Cause we belong together now, yeah
Forever united here somehow, yeah
You got a piece of me
And honestly,
My life (my life) would suck (would suck) without you

I'm not sure how I feel about Kelly Clarkson being related to diabetes :P

Yeah - LMAO Pat - I kept trying to keep her out of my mind!

There are worse people than Kelly Clarkson that could be related to diabetes.

I still think what she has to say is valuable, and regardless of who sings the songs I also think the lyrics apply.

I recently used this list to make a CD for a friend that's been down. It came in handy :)

I love coming back to this forum and looking at all the replies! old and new... I just thought of another one! :D this song is by Relient K and its called Who I Am Hates Who I've Been. It reminds me of when I was really struggling with my diabetes and refused to except that I had gotten this disease. But now I've moved on and I know I can succeed. :)

Awesome thread! I really enjoyed reading the various songs that people relate to their diabetes.

Somewhere In Between By Lifehouse is my pick :)

I can't be losing sleep over this
no, i can't
and I cannot stop pacing
give me a few hours
and I'll have this all sorted out
if my mind would just stop racing

'cause I cannot stand still
I can't be this un sturdy
this cannot be happening

this is over my head
but underneath my feet
cause by tomorrow morning I'll have this thing beat
and everything will be back to the way that it was
I wish that it was just that easy

'cause I'm waiting for tonight
then waiting for tomorrow
and I'm somewhere in between
what is real and just a dream

would you catch me if I fall
out of what I fell in
don't be surprised if I collapse down at your feet again
I don't want to run away from this
I know that i just don't need this

'cause I cannot stand still
I can't be this un sturdy
this cannot be happening

'cause I'm waiting for tonight
then waiting for tomorrow
and I'm somewhere in between
what is real and just a dream

"Schism" by Tool can easily be applied...it needs to be listened to for the full effect.  It discusses pieces that used to fit...trying to put the pieces back together. This can easily be seen as a diagnosis, the life you had has fallen apart and must be rebuilt.  The song also relates to trying to reestablish communication, such as the communication between a new diabetic and friends who don't understand, or simply the communication between yourself and your body in terms of somatic signals and monitoring for blood glucose issues.  A lot more could be related...please listen and enjoy.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhjG47gtMCo
